Going Home.
Atlanta. Jan. 25.-Dr. Arrowood. the
west side physician, whose mania for
school giris got h ! m Into the clutches of
the police several days ago, will either go
to the tunaiic asylum or to the chain-gang.
This afternoon the- recorder finished
hearing the complaints against the doctor,
and announced his determination to send
him to the rock pile for tnirty days to
ponder upon his strange conduct. The sen
tence was, however, suspended until Mon
day, the request of his brother, who
said he would take out a writ of lunacy
for the doctor and have him committed to
the asylum as a "jiaranoelc."
The little Kiltrell girl, who was the im
mediate cause of the doctor's troubles with
the police because of his effort to marry
her, did not testify to-day, as was expect
ed, but there were a number of others
whose stories, told to the recorder, estab
lished thg accusation against the doctor.
Dr. Arrowood Is stilf confined in the city
prison. The officers and other people who
have been watching him are sure that he
needs either a term in the asyjum or on the
rock pile to bring him to his senses.
Geological Investigation,
The investigation of the geological bu
reau was completed to-day. Tnat is, all
the testimony was finished. All that now
remains to be done is to take a vote on
the two propositions, whether the depart
ment is to be sustained, and whether the
present administration is to lie sustained,
then make out the report to Gov. Can
dler. This vole will be taken on Monday.
As has already been stated in these re
ports, all the indications point to an in
dorsement of both tlie department and
the present administration of it. Prof.
Yeates, the state geologist, was before
the committee to-day, and made a final
statement in defense of his work.
Classifications Changed.
The State Railroad Commission held a
meeting to-day, and took up the question
of changing the classification of the At
lanta and West Point Road by lowering
local rates 10 per cent., but postponed ac
tion upon it.
The commission had before it several
changes in classification, which were pass
ed upon. Another rearrangement of milk
and butter tariffs was effected, the mini
mum carload being reduced from 15,000 to
8,000 pounds, and the number of cords of
wood increased from 8 Cos 10 per car.
Street Hallway Muddle.
Judge Candler to-day began the hearing
of the Perkins Injunction case. This is
one of the main branches of the fight
between the Consolidated and the Atlanta
Street Railway over the West Side fran
chises, granted by Council to the Atlunta.
Perkins is being used as a catspaw for
the Consolidated, stock of the Atlanta
having been bought and placed in his
name, and then an Injunction applied for
by him as a stockholder to prevent the
taking up of the new franchises on the
ground that such an extension would
bankrupt the company.
One of the unique incidents of the fight
on this point is that, although the Con
solidated has also applied for the West
Side franchises, President "Woodruff of
that company testified to-day that business
in this new territory would not pay oper
ating expenses.
Floridians Mustered Out.
About 160 members of the First Florida
Regiment, Fnited States Volunteers, mus
tered out at Huntsville yesterday, reached
Atlanta this morning on their way hack
home They left to-night over the Central
for various points in Florida.
BRIDGES’ TRIAL. COXCUDED.
Grand Jury Disapproves Effort to
Reduce School Fund*
Rome, Ga., Jan. 28.—At 9:30 o’clock to
night Judge Henry concluded his charge
to the Jury' in the case of ex-School Com
missioner Bridges, charged with embez
zling 85,4(0 of the county school funds.
This is the third trial.
Solicitor General Mose Wright made an
eloquent and powerful speech Just before
the judge’s charge, A verdict of guilty is
expected by many from the Jury, but it
may be another mistrial. Harper Hamil
ton made a fine presentation of the law
for the prosecution. Judge Branham and
Senator R. T. Fouche were the attorneys
for Bridges, and made as able a defense
for him as possibly could have been done.
The grand jury in its presentments this
afternoon disapproved the action of Floyd
county’s representatives in the legislature
In voting to reduce the public school
funds. They recommended a levy of ten
mills on the dollar to pay for running the
schools the usual length of lime.
The pest house and everything In it was
burned 40-day. The sma!l-pox patient has
been discharged as cured. None of those
exposed developed the disease>

COLUMBIA BICYCLES.
KNOW YE
That the people have declared In
their favor and henceforth and for

recognized as the most widely used

"The Standard of the World."
Unprecedented has been the sale
of COLUMBIA WHEELS in this
city. We can hardly keep enough
in stock. Shipments of 20 wheels at
a time come and go as if by magic.
The reason is plain, Never has there
been so much offered for the money.
Think of THE COLUMBIA, ahead
of everything in the world, being
sold for
FORTY—B4O—DOLLARS.
This is the greatest bicycle bargain
of the age—a wonder in every way.
Exaclly the same wheel we sold last
year for 875.
Next is the
COLUMBIA C'HAINLESS at $75.
The coming wheel for every

the so-called chainless wheels
