Atlanta, April s.—While no report on
the condition of the Southern Home Build
ing and Loan Association has been made
by the recently api>ointed receivers, it is
estimated that the assets will nmount to
81,000,000.
The oflicers hope that by a judicious ad
ministration of the affairs that the receiv
ers can return to the stockholders every
dollar that has been paid in by them.
Anci.iary bills have been hied In the
federal courts in all the stutets in which
tW association has assets.
Judge Don A. Pardee, United States cir
cuit judge, signed the ordeis on all the
bills except those for the states of Tenn
essee ami South Carolina. In Tennessee
the orders were signed by Judge Burton
and in South Carolina by Judge Simon
ton.
In all of the state Judge Pendleton and
Air. Henderson have been made co-receiv
ers, and they are now in charge of all
of the association's property.

action was begun in Atlanta, and the pro
ceedings here were for the purpose of
avoiding a multiplicity of suits. Many
people throughout this state are interest
ed in the association.

Dr. Landrum Now Chairman of Home
NllHMion Hoard.
Atlanta, April s.—The Home Mission
Board of the Southern Baptist Conven
tion has named Dr. W. W. Landrum,
pastor of the First Baptist church of
this city, as chairman of the board, to
succeed Dr. Henry McDonald, resigned.
This action will be ratified by the con
vention which meets on May 11, in Hot
Springs, Ark.
As chairman of the Home Mission
Board, Dr. Landrum will have charge of
all the home mission work in the South
ern states, from Maryland to Oklahoma,
and from Florida to Missouri. The Home
Missions are the missionary pastorates,
schools and other Institutions sustained
by the convention in the fields which are
unable to sustain themselves.
All the expenditures of money for
these institutions are directed by the
board of which Dr. Landrum will be the
head. The work includes the fields in Ok
lahoma, Indian Territory and in Cuba.
The negroes of the South are also in
cluded in the mission work under the
board. Ball (more and St. Louis are in
the territory embraced by the Southern
convention.

Atlanta, April s.—ln the matter of the
litigation instituted by the Atlat/ta Trust
and Banking Company against the Stand
ard Telephone Company, to prevent the
latter company from Issuing certain bonds
In lieu of those already outstanding.
Judge Lumpkin today decided that the
new issue could be made.
The telephone company was required,
however, to pay $750 to the old trustees,
and $750 to the attorneys. The telephone
company was directed to file a bond In
the sum of $20,000 for the protectlqn of
the outstanding bonds which have not
yet been located. Under the ruling of the
court the old bonds for which the At
lanta Trust and Banking Company was
trustee are to be cancelled and anew
Issue, with the City Trust Safety Deposit
and Surety Company, of Philadelphia, as
trustee, can be made, amounting lo
*600,000.

Turman Becomes a Candidate for
County ConimlNNioner.
Atlanta, April 6.—S. B. Turman, the
real estate agent, has announced for Coun
ty Commissioner to fill one of the two va
cancies that will occur at the expiration
of the terms of present Chairman E. B.
Rosser and former Chairman. H. E. W.
Palmer. Turman's entrance in the race
means another fight between the old Con
soli dated and antt-Oonsolidated forces. The
fight last year between Capl. Anderson
and Mr. Turman was one of the hottlest
In the history of the board. The two com
missioners. whose terms expire this year,
are favorable to the Consolidated inter
ests, and it is only necessary for the
Brown-Adair faction to gain one of these
places to control the hoard; hence the
•ctruggle ahead for the mastery.

Atlanta, April 6.—The Fulton County
Board of Examiners of Engineers has iex
ported to the Board of County Commis
sioners that the blame for the explosion
at the Williams' brick yard last Monday
was due to the Incompetency of Engineer
Edwards, who was in charge at the lime.
It was reported lo the board by Engine i
C. L. Ashley that lie notified the brick
company that it musi put a licensed < ti
gineer in charge. Ashley says he is going
to prosecute the negligent ones fur the ac
cident. The company manager denies iliai
he was informed of the complaint against
his engineer.

Atlanta. April 5.—F. O. Dlckensheet of
Kansas City, Mo., commit!ed suicide at
the Jackson Hotel to-night by taking mor
phine. He left a note addressed to ih<
newspaper men, to notify relatives In Mis
souri, and to do anyihlng with his body,
except not to let it get in the hands of
any dissecting class. He seemed lo have
a perfect horror of that. No cause was
assigned for the deed.

ments were made before Judge Simonton
here to-day upon the questions certified by
Judge Shepherd, the standing master.

Executive Committee for Charlton county
met yesterday and decided to hold a con
vention May 10 to nominate candidates

solicitor general. John W. Rennet was
recommended for re-election by Charlton
county's grand jury. The only candidates
announced in this county so far are J. j.

The following is published for ihe in
formation and guidance of the public:
Asa precautionary measure, and in view
of the fact that small-pox prevails in
many of the counties and towns of Geor
gia and the- surrounding states, and can
be transmitted through the medium of
the mails, express packages, freight, etc.,
notice is herewith given by the Sanitary
Board of the city of Savannah, that every
person resident in the city of Savannah
or the county of Chatham, must be vac
cinated within the next ten days, ending
April 15, 19C0, and that after the expira
tion of that time the law will be rigidly
enforced as to all persons found not vac
cinated. as follows:
“Section 62. MacDonell’s code (acts of
1877: Vaccination Compulsory: Vaccina
tion shall lx* compulsory upon all persons
living in Chatham county, and any per
son or persons who have not been vacci
nated, and who, after the 19th of Feb
ruary, 187?, fail to be vaccinated, shall,
upon conviction for the first offense, be
punished by a fine of not more than one
hundred dollars or imprisonment in the
county jail for not longer than one
month.”
The city physicians will vaccinate free
of charge, any persons resident in the
city of Savannah or county of Chatham,
who are paupers or unable from poverty
to pay for the same.
