AKERMAN IN DEEP TROUBLE.
COLORED REl’I IU.IfANS ARE TAK
ING HIM TO TASK.
An Alleged Interview With the
Eleventh I>ltrlet Supervisor as
Well as Some of Ills Assignments,
Does Not rienst* 'lliein—Memorial
Dny In Ilrunswlek With Shelby
My rlek as Orator—Symons for the
Leglnlnture.
Brunswick, Ga.. April 25.—Preparations
for observing Memorial day here to-mor
row are the most extensive made in some
yea re and will be elaborately carried out.
The parade will be composed of all the
military and civic organizations under the
marshal of the day, Maj. R. Ernest Dart,
of the First Regiment, while Commander
Frank D. Aiken of the Georgia Naval
Militia Battalion will have charge of the
military.
Mr. Shelby Myrick of Savannah, the or
ator of the day, is here, the guest of Mrs.
J. M. Madden, and his fame having pre
ceded him as a brilliant young orator,
the public is on the qui vive of expect
ancy to hear him. The exercises will be
field in the new Grand Opera House, and
to-night the weather bids fair to give
Brunswick a perfect day to-morrow.
A Republican It uni pus.
An Interesting row Is brewing in the Re
publican Eleventh district camps, due to
the alleged partiality shown by District
Census Supervisor Akerman of Dublin in
Ms recent Glynn county appointments,
and os this is the headquarters of fhe
District Committee and Chairman Belch
er’s home tow n, it would not be surpris
ing if Supervisor Akerman did not have
a warm time ahead of him. It all grew
out of appointments and an alleged inter
view' with Supervisor Akerman, publish
ed in Savannah and Atlanta, In connec
tion with the appointments—an interview
v'hich Akerman has taken pains to deny
In letters to the colored Republican papers
and to the Republican leaders, but which
§o far the general public has not seen
and which the Republican leaders here
are anxious for him to publish in the
aame papers in which the alleged inter
view appeared.
It seems that Akerman claimed that not
enough competent white men applied for
jobs as census enumerators in Glynn, or
fie would have given Congressman Brant
ley’s home county more while men as a
compliment to the congressman. Akerman
denies he said this, and alleges that the
correspondent at Dublin misquoted him.
Akerman also In the alleged interview
throws off on the colored Republicans In
Glynn. This he also denies.
The amusing feature of the business Is
that James G. Carter, a very intelligent
and much-liked colored man here, who
acts as editor of Chairman Belcher's pa
per and as his right-hand man, says that
Akerman, in addition to throwing off on
the colored men, has given the white
Democrats good local districts and has
given him a district in which the inhabi
tants are mostly occupants of two ceme
teries, one crematory and several pest
houses, and he cannot figure how to make
a living by taking tills district at the so
much-per-head rates that the government
allows enumerators. More developments
are awaited and the Republicans are stir
red up over the situation.
Sj ino 11 s for Legislature.
Capt. W. F. Symons, Brunswick’s popu
lar postmaster, and one time representa
tive, has announced for the Legislature
end surprised the boys. He is supposed to
be in the hands of the Good Government
faction of local politicians, and to fight
Hon. Harry F. Dun woody, who is looked
upon as the probable candidate of the ring
faction.
SECOND GEORGIA HEI N ION.
The Regiment Invited to Dublin.
Other Enure nn Nnv.i.
Dublin. Ga., April 25.—0n Monday the ex
ecutive board of the Young Men’s Business
League decided to extend an Invitation to
the Second G< orgia Regiment to hold Its
annual encampment in Dublin this year,
end a determined effort will be made to
get it accepted. Several companies of the
regiment are known to favor Dublin, and
It Is thought that the invitation will be
accepted.
The sensation in political circles this
week was the withdrawal of Mr. H. M.
Stanley from tlie race for the-Senate. Mr.
Stanley gave a.s his reason the fa t that
Dublin is developing too many candidates
for the various offices and that
the country districts ought to
l#e given a chance. His with
drawal, his friends say, has made him
stronger than ever in the county. There
ifc now only one candidate for the Senate,
Judge J. S. Chappell, but it is certain
that he will have strong opposition for
the nomination.
On May 16, the Democratic Executive
Conmittee will meet to decide when and
how candidates for county offices shall be
selected. One meeting to decide this ques
tion has already been held, but the pro
t>l m was too knotty to solve. There is
probably no question upon which the jx o
l*!e of Laurens county was ever so badly
divided. Some assert that a white primary
is the thing, others want a white Demo
cratic primary; some think that all
known Democratic negroes should be
allowed to vote, while a large number of
others favor a convention of delegates*
from each militia district.
Memorial Day will be ob v orvel here next
Thursday. C. A. Meddington, Esq., of this
city will deliver the memorial addivss.
Mr. Wedding!on, at college, took a num
ber of medals for oratory, and it i ex-
P cd that his address will lx* a fine one.
The Dublin Military Band will furn sh
music for the occasion. This excell-ru
band was Invited to participate in the
tn*-mortal exercises at Hiwkinsvllle, bet
declined, preferring to remain at home on
that day.

Spring
Humors
It doesn’t make any difference
whether you believe in the modern
theory and speak of the cause of dis
eases as referable to germs, microbes
or bacilli, or whether you use the old
er and better understood terms of
“humors” and “blood diseases”—
Hood’s Sarsaparilla cures them all
JUST THE SAME. It cures those
eruptions, boils and pimples which are
so likely to appear in the Spring;
cures scrofula diseases in their most
tenacious forms; cures salt rheum or
eczema and relieves the itching and
bnrning; adapts itself equally well
to, aud also cures, dyspepsia and all
stomach troubles due to generally
weak condition and thin, anaemic
blood; cures nervous troubles, which,
in nine cases out of ten, exist because
the impure blood cannot supply prop
er nerve food; cures debility and
that tired feeling, which just as surely
indicate that the blood is lacking in
vitality and the elements of health.
This is not merely modern theory hut
it is solid, up-to-date fact. Hood’s
Sarsaparilla has had such remarkable
success along these lines that it is not
too much to say it is the best Spring
Medicine, blood purifier, stomach and
nerve tonic that money can buy. t.
