IX a SCOTCH FOURSOME.
Darien nml Savannah Golfers Tried
for the Supremacy.
An interesting game of golf was played
ve-terday afternoon on the links of the
Savannah Golf Club, between Messrs.
Robert and Andrew Manson of Darien,
ni 1 Mr. H. Blun, Jr., and Mr. C. W.
S/iussy.
The game was a Scotch foursome, best
[hall to count. It was originally arranged
to be played between Messrs. Manson and
Messrs. H. Blun, Jr., and J. D. Taylor,
but owing to the illness of Mr. Taylor,
Mr. Saussy was called upon to play at
the last minute, and being a little out cf
practice, did not play up to his usual
mime. Messrs. Manscns are old golfers,
having played considerably in the old
country and with little practice will rank
w i) among the amateurs of America.
In a Scotch foursome each player plays
with his own ball, and the player making
the best score on the least number of
strikes wins the hole for his side. Each
•contestant started off with a good drive,
ard the first hole was halved by Blun
and Robert Manson in 5. The second hole
was won by Blun, 3, and Saussy 4, to the
others 5. The third was won by the Darien
bn s in 6 to Savannah's 8, tteing the score.
The fourth was won by the Mansons in 4
to 5. The lifth was halved in 5, Saussy los
ing his ball by knocking It over the fence
jn a cane brake and driv
ing out. The hunkers on the sixth
drive seemed to rattle him, and from then
he lost his game for the balance of the
round. The sixth was won by Mauson in
7. making them 2 up and 12 to play. The
seventh was nlso won by Mauson, and
the eighlh and ninth were halved. The
score for the first round was 3 up for
Darien and 9 to play.
in the second round Saussy got on to
his gome again, and won the tenth hole
in 5; the eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth
holes were halved; the Mausons won the
fourteenth, score, 3 up. 4 to play; the
fifteenth hole was halved; Saussy won
the sixteenth, and the seventeenth and
eghteenth were halved, the score being
2 up for Darien.
The score by detail was as follows:

PAPERS WERE SATISFACTORY.
Examining Board Recommended
That Commission* Be Issued.
The military examining board sent on
the papers of the candidates for commis
sions in the state service who stood their
examinations day before yesterday. The
indorsement of the board went with each
paper, and it is probable that the com
missions will soon be issued.
Considerable Interest was felt by the
candidates In the result. They all knew
that they were probably safe, though there
was desire to know just what they made.
The statement that the papers were s°nt
on with recommendations.*,'however, will
be gratifying nows, none the less.
Following are those who stood the exam
inations: Capt. Wright Hunter, First
