| A Card from Dr. James HI. Jar-
RETT, OF THE NEW YORK LUNG INFIRMA
RY".—My connection for the past eight years with
the above Institution, as Chief Physician, and a
twelve years’ course of steady devotion to the cure
of Pulmonary Consumption and its kindred diseases,
together with my unrivalled opportunities and ad
vantage of pathological research—aided not a little
by a perfect system of Medical Inhalation—has en
abled me to arrive at a decisive, direct, and success
ful conrse of treatment for the positive and radical
cure of all diseases of the Throat, -Lungs, and Air-
Passages. By inhalation, the vapor and curative
properties of medicines are directly addressed to the
diseased organs aud the integument. I do not ad
vise the use of Medical Inhalation of any kind, to
the exclusion of general treatment; aud although 1
consider it a useful adjuvant in the proper manage
ment of those fearful and often fatal diseases, yet 1
deem it very necessary that each patient should hove
the benefit of both general end local treatment. The
success of my treatment in tbo above diseases, and
the high character of the Institution over which J
have so long had the honor to preside, are too well
known to need any eulogy or comment from me.—
At the solicitation of many private and professional
friends, through whose philanthropic aid the above
charity lias been long anil liberally supported, and
after due consideration, 1 have concluded to make
such arrangements as will bring the benefits of my
experience nr.il treatment within the reach of all.
ami not confine myself, as heretofore, to these only
who entered the Infirmary, or who wereableto visit

In all Nervous, Rheumatic, and Neuralgic Affec

beneficial, and in others effected a decided cure.
This is a purely vegetable compound, prepared ou
strictly scientific principles, after the manner of the
celebrated Holland Professor, Boerbave. Because
of its great success in most of the European Slates,
its introduction into the United States was intended
more especially for those of our fatherland -red
here aud there over tho face of this mighty r iuntry.
Meeting with great success among them, I now offer
it to the American public, knowing that its trulv
wonderful medicinal virtues must be acknowledged.
It is particularly recommended to those persons
whbse constitutions may have been impaired by the
continuous use of ardent spirits, or other fnrxn3 of
dissipation. Generally instantaneous In effect, it
finds its way directly to the seat of lift*, thrilling and
quickening every nerve, raising up the drooping
spirit, and, in fact* infusing new health and vigor in
the system.

IRON COTTON TIE.
JN all the heaviest Cotton regions of the groa
South West, the INGERSOLL HOOP LOCK
with the common Sloop Iron SSnnil, has superse
ded every other method of securing tho Cotton Bale-
Time and space would fall ns to give the numerous
certificates of Cotton Planters, Brokers, Warehouse
men, Insurers, Compressors and Shippers, showing
beyond a doubt, that the days of Rope binding are
numbered, and the immense advantages of the
Hoop Xiock and Iron Tie. Their economy
wherever tried, has been conceded in these points:
1. They sure twenty to thirty dollar* co*l
in baling tnntcrinl on every one hundred
Bags.
2. The fastening is much more expeditiously ap
plied, and much more convenient for the compress.
3. It is a perfect safeguard against loss of Cotton
from the bale.
4. Itis nu almost absolute security against
Fire. Fire applied to bales thus bound, as shown
by actual experiment, ecUl smoulder scithout flame,
twenty hours without spreading, and allowing plenty
of time for easy extinguishment.
5 Iti* nu absolutely secure fastening. In
actual experiments made in Montgomery, bales thus
bound, were pitched down forty feet perpendicular
from a house-top, upon a brick pavement, without
perceptible effect.
■ 6. It is perfectly simple.and requires no machinery
at all in the application. Any common hoop-iron of
proper width and thickness, (which is about j inch
wide, and a scant sixteenth of one inch thick,) and
of any requisite length to suit the bale, is taken
in the hand, one end passed through tho opening,
from the under side, of one end ot the under part
of the lock to the length of abont one inch, and then
bent over tho end of the lock. The other end ol the
hoop is then passed round the bale anddrawn through
a loop or opening iu tbe opposite end of the lock,
and tncu bent in the same manner as the other. Tho
button is then turned back to its place over them,
and the hoop is fast on the bale, ana the bale maybe
moved if desired.
7. It bolds tbe package in one-fourth smaller com
pass than rope—thereby rendering it easier to han
dle, and cheapening freight.
