Let us post up a few views and facts of and
about Spiritualism.
Spiritualism is ''Ueaten made easy” in or
der to go surely to the pit
Spiritualism is the substitution of the reli
gion of Christ by the delusions of Satan.
Spiritualism teaches that the Rock of Ages
is shaking to its very foundation, and that the
existence of Satan is a mirth-provoking feature
in Rev. Mr. Walker’s logical exposition of Spir
itism of Macon. The old serpent is cunning.
Spiritualism says, God is too good to admit
eternal punishment and would he unjust in not
saving all men. Universalism and diabolism.
Spiritualism is a serious fuss kicked up in a
mirth-jirovoking bubble. Satan's masterpiece.
Spiritualism seems not to know that Voltaire
swore to destroy the Bible, that not a iota
should remain of it Poor wit and still poorer
prophccy!
Spiritualism beats all isms, because it pre
tends to be tiie true Christian religion. Satan
has wonderful powers but remains always the
old liar as he is the murderer from the begin
ning.
Spiritualism seems not to know, that the de
vil does not like to hear singing, as Luther says,
and that ho runs off a coward, when people
sing:
"Rock of Ages, cleft for mo," etc.
And so wc take leave of our indulgent read
ers till tho battle-din sounds again !
E. LEONHARD.
P. S. Since I wrote tho above article, I am
credibly informed, that the Roman Catholic
Church forbids every Catholic the least inter
ference with Spiritualism under the penalty of
immediate exclusion from the Church. This is
a very wise provision, and although Christians
of other denominations would by all means dis
countenance Spiritualism, yet, there are some
unguarded, curious and unenlightened people,
who stray towards the manifestations of Satan,
to get entangled and touch the unclean thing.
The reader will remember that Miss Fox of
Rochester, after having been a prominent agent
of the spiritual manifestatiqn^ of Satyn, became
Christian mid forswore Satan under the ac
ceptance of the Catholic foith. Miss Fox was a
competent judge of the Devil; her contact with
Satan, was—horribile dictu—almost tangible
and the sternness of the Catholic provision was
a leading reason, why she joined Christ through
the Cathclic creed. By that inflexible and dicta
torial Church provision tl(c vv’hqlc Catholic body
with suggestive emphasis, “when the choice is
made—[laughter]—good bye to her freedom and
happiness. She must be submissive to her
husband, become a good wife, and so forth. If
I were a man—[Renewed laugter]—I said if—I
would profrr an American girl flirt with, but I
should choose an English girl to marry. [Ap
plause.] Courting is a delightful affair in A-
merica. I dare say men think so in this coun
try, but they have not been in America.”
Senator Thompson, of Kentucky,
ON THE PRESIDENCY.
Senator Thompson, of Kentucky, whose
term of office expires very soon, makes the
following remarks. He thinks Mr. Buchanan
will accept a renomination. He says:
If his Cuba horse, his Cuba hobby, can
tickle the South, and upon the iron question
he can hang the old Keystone State to him by
bars of iron and hooks of steel, he will be very
apt to stand in a pretty good position for de
manding a nomination—a position where he
can say :—"Gentleman just step upon this
platform, here is your candidate; you must
take him; you cannot do without him.” It
looks to me mightily that way.
I know, Mr. President, (Breckenridge) that
it has been mentioned often, laughingly, tba-
there has been a belief that if nothing elsct
your lock would kill him; that you got every,
thing you ever went for, all you wanted, and Booty Cot-str, Dec. *, ISM.
