that acts as a Cathartic, easier, milder, and more ef
fectual than any other medicine known. It is not
only a Cathartic, but a I.irer remedy, acting first on
the Liver to eject its morbid matter, that onthesto
inach and bowels to carry off that matter, thus ac
complishing two purposes effectually, without any
of tlie painful feelings experienced in the operations
of most Cathartics. It strengthens tho system st the
same time that it purges it. and when taken daily
in moderate doses, will strengthen and hnild it up

INGERSOLL HOOP

IKON COTTON TIE.
I N all the heaviest Cotton regions of the groa
South-West, the INGERSOLL HOOP LOCK
with the common Hoop Iron Band, has superse
ded every other method of securing the Cotton Balo.
Time and space would fail us to give the numerous
certificates of Cotton Planters. Brokers. Warehouse
men. Insurers, Compressors and Shipper*, showing
beyond a doubt, that tho days of Rope binding are
numbered, and the immense advantages of the
Rood Lock and Iron Tic. Their economy
wherever tried, hns been conceded in these points:
1. They mivo twenty to thirty dollar* co«t
in billing material on every one hundred
B **Tho fastening is much more expeditiously ap
plied, and much moro convenient for the compress.
3. It is a perfect safeguard against loss of Cotton
from the bale.
4. Hi* nn nlinoot nbaolntc security ngninxt
Fire, Fire applied to bales thus bound, as shown
by actual experiment, mill smoulder wittunst Jlamc,
twenty hours without spreading, and allowing plenty
of time for easy extinguishment.
3 It i» nn absolutely »rcnrc fnxtcuing. In
actual experiments made in Montgomery, bales thus
bound, were pitched down fortv feet perpendicular
from a house-top, upon a brick pavement, without
perceptible effect.
6. It is perfectly simple, and requires no machinery
at all in the application. Any common hoop-iron of
proper width and thickness, (which is about } inch
wide, and a scant sixteenth of one inch thick,) and
of any requisite length to suit the hale, is taken
iu the hand, one end pasted through tlie opening,
from the underside, of ono end nt ’j"
ofthe lock to the length of about one inch, and then
ofthe lock. The other end oi the
of the
bent over the end- , , .
hoop is then passed round tho bale and drawn through
a loop or opening in the opposite end of the lock,
and then bent in the same manneras the other. The
button is then turned back to its pUce oyer^tbein,
d‘ L *
and the hoop is fast on the bale, and the bale may be
moved if desired. ..
7. It holds the package in one-fourtli smaller com
pass than rope—thereby rendering it easier to han
dle, and cheapening freight.
These facts and advantages ar« certified to by
leading Warehouse men. Planters, Shippers and Bro
kers iu testimonials too numerous to be cited or spec
