As IxpoHTAST Discovf.rv.—It is said that
Col. Colt, tho inventor ami manufacturer of
the revolving pistol, lias, after experiments for
the past two years, succeeded in producing at
i he scene of continued and i a trifling cost, a superior Silver Steel outofor-
l M- i> "‘ , ami we may add, dinary gun metal. It is said to be capable of
' • ■ • l •••*•• receiving a very high polish, and is three times
stronger and tougher than the best cast steel
heretofore made. If all that is said in praise
of this stool prove true, American tabic cutle
ry will, in a few years, supercede everything of
tile kind imported from abroad. It needed but
this to dcvelope another and very important
branch of the arts in our midst.

stands of cotton are generally good, and . thus

The Atlantic ■ Cable.—Some, fifty miles of
the Atlantic cable have been taken up, to a
point extending seaward fifty miles from the
shores of Trinity Bay, Fractures were found
in the cable just where they had been Indicated
by the instruments on shore. The intention is
to underrun a similar length of the wire on the
Kuropean side, and it is then thought, by the
sanguine promoters of ocean telegraphing that
the Atlantic cable will be made to work. -

THE DKIGGS PIANO
II AS- BEEN
Grossly Misrepresented.
WE have tho beat of rcsons for
believing that certain Dealers iu
Macon have said that they have
refused tho Agency for the sale of
tlic Driggs Pianos, that they were
such poor things that they would
have nothing to do with them, or words to that import.
Wc have written to Messrs. Wm. Hall *fc S?on, Gener
al Agents fbr the Driggs Piano, on the subject, aud have
received the following answer:
New York, 7 April, I&60.
Wc have never, directly or indirectly, offered the Driggs
Pianos to any other person in your city; neither have
we. so far as we can recollect, had any communication
with’any other Dealers, on the subject, and who ever has
represented to the contrary, has done so maliciously, and
has been guilty of gross falsehood.
WM. 1IALL & SON.
We say tho same of that man who said he could buy
the Driggs riauo for #200 and theft make $50;"*or that
they will not do, that they will not last, that the people at
theNorth will not have them, that they are put in Auction
rooms for sale, and all that sort of stufl. Nearly all the
Teachers arc interested, directly or iudircctly, iu tlie sale
of other Pianos, and ran down the Driggs,-especially
those that do not speak the English language quite plain;
and i3 it surprising that they Bhould be against the
Driggs, especially as there is but ouc authorized Agent
iu rite State. Wc intend that one or more of these Pi
anos shall be seen and heard io all the principal Towns
in the State. We an* forced to do this in sdf defence.—
Wc are more than willing tliat those who have bought
and tried these Pianos should decide whether they are
what represented.
The iol low ing gentlemen have purchased a Driirgs Pi
ano: Prof. I. K. Branham, P, G. Guttcnberger, Prof, of
Musk: in the W. F. College, Mr. J. II. R. Washington, of
the State Bank, Mr. G. W. Ross, also the Asylum for the
Blind, all of Macon; Col. J. L. Rowland, Oartcrsvillc;
K r. Mathews, Fort Valley: Dr. Billincs, Columbus; Mr.
■ . Gammage, Marsbalviltc; Mr. R. R. Davis, Dawson;
Prof. W. J/Noithcn, Mt. Zion.

Dear Sms—Yours of the 13th inst., has bean re
ceived, its contents noted, ftc. In reply to yonr en
quiry in regard to the Reese's Manipulated Guano*
as a fertilizer—I am well pleased ao far aa I have
tested its use. I applied abont 100 lbs. per acre on
land that was badly worn, and not of the beat when
fresh. The product of the field where the Guano
was applied Is over 800 lbs. of seed cotton per acre.
The same kind of land without the Gnano produced
abont too lbs. per aero. My mode of applying th®
Guano; was by depositing it in the drill before bed
ding up the land, 1 havo not tried its aseoncorn,
but have no doubt but it will succeed well. I shall
use It pretty extensively on my next crop.
Yours Ke*peitfii'ly,
