THE WEEKLY/GEORGIA TELEGRAPH ii i "iraivT s—-***™™ 11 11 MASONRY EXPOSED. Dark Doings of.'o Dingy Grand Master. Masons Made at Sight. We Icnrnrd on Thursday last thnt sever al Individuals of the sable persuasion of architecture, who were recently manumit- ted and hnd left South Carolina under the pressure of secession, had received at the hands of another colored gentleman, nam ed Gundy, and a resident of this city, the first degreo of masonary, which had been conferred by him at tlie low tariff of 8l 50 for each candidate, and without any pre vious propoaitions b<*iiur made. Thinking that perhaps the Grand Lodge ofHam- burgh, which has formely evidenced n strong penchant for the dingy race of this country, had created by letters patent a new and ofT-ooloWd Grand .Master for this locn- tion, we act on foot an investigation into the a flair, and after some trouble, found one of the «lowly made Masons. He was one of nine—end although “brought to light,” still appeared to us to be covered with darkness —who had made complaints against Gun dy before one of Our police magistrates, each charging that he had been swindled out of the aforesaid $1 50 by Gundy, who pretended to have made them Free and Accepted Masons. After some persuasion, the “color’d pusaon’’ in question gave us the following information in nearly tho following words, illustrated by frequent displays of the whites of hit eyes and tlie whites of his ivo* rie& “You see, Boasy, we was all a g’tvine to go to Hayti, an* ’fore we took de passa ges, dis nigger Gundy rung’d hisaelf in on us. He say dot he was Mason, a Daugh ter of Ruth, a Sor of Malta, an’ one of de Odd Fellows! We foun’ him mighty odd ’fore wo got frou wid him, now rtiin’ I tell THE Georgia Telegraph Printing House! if I did, I >hou!d have my, left leg sawed oil and my wool clipped short to dr leather.” ** Was that the end of it ?” “ Yes, pr> li v near , only lie said dar was soinetiug behind. Den betook de blinders off an’ told me to < nwelow n»y tawny an’ git ready for dc udder customers. So I put on my linmess an’ took charge ob de bladder an’ dc pass, so’s to git even on do nex’! De rest cum up jess’ de same as I did, nnd paid dar doll’ n’aff, an’ went tn an’got done for jess’ do same as me, an' in jess’ de same plaoe. After dey d nil gone frou’—an’ min’,. I tell you, I, use dat bladder wid de peua in it, right hard, on’ in do right place—Gundy done gone an’ ax us nil to drink, nn’ while he was gwine for de whiskey. I kinder got a kink in my head’’ (Reader, you should have seen the kinks in that head !) “dat de ting wasn’t all on de square ! an’ I told de udder nigs de same ting! So when became back, I axed him if we was nil true blood ed Hayti-Masons, shif an’ squar! He said yes, only 'dar was one ting-daU he.hadn’t done: when he rushed out nnd brought Ip (fed—dest biggest tin squirt-gun whaM eberseed in my life!
