A HARD STORY ON PRYOR.
About as strong an example of wholestle
fabrication as we have seen is the annexed sto
ry on Roger A. Pryor, from the TriUuneof the
1 Oth. The philosopher of the Tribune has a
special hatred of Pryor,-and everybody whom
Greeley hates is a drunkard, as a matter of
course. Accordingly the first in Greeley’s col
umn of ‘‘incidents” connected with the surren
der of Fort Sumter is tho following—a whole
sale manufacture:
An incident occurred during the cannona
ding, which, for its peculiarity, deserves partic
ular mention. Roger A. Pryor, of Virginia, cx-
Member of Congress, was one of the second dep
utation that waited upon Major Anderson. He
was the vory embodiment of Southern chivalry.
Literally dressed to kill, bristling with bowie
knives and revolver, like a walking arsenal, he
appeared to think himself individually cn|>ab!e
of captaring the fort, without any extraneous
assistance. Inside of the fort he seemed to
think himself master- of everj’thing-viuonareh
of all he surveyed—and, in keeping with his
pretension, seeing upon the table what appear
ed to be a glass of brandy, drank it without
any ceremony. Surgeon Crawford, who liad
witnessed the feat, approached him ami said:
“Sir, what you have drank is poison—it was the
iodide of potassium—you are a dead man."—
The representative of chivalry instantly col
lapsed, bowie knives, revolvers, and all, and
passed into the hands, of Surgeon Crawford,
who. by purgings, pumpings, and pokings, de
feated his own prophecy in regard to his fate.
Mr. Pryor left Fort Sumter “a wiser, if not .a
a better man.”

Immediately after the seizure of the Argo,
the company proceeded to a revenue cutter,
now in thcservice of the United States Govern

capable of doing much service, and when, cal
led into action will prove, undoubtedly, th-it
she was a prize wor h taking. Aliout three

she had been securely fastened, and while sbe-
was discharging her Petersburg freight, new
hands appeared upon her deck, and in as quick
a time as it takes us to relate it, the strength
ofehains bound her yet more effectually, apd
now beyond all hazard, she was safely fixed.
Col. Brockett then informed Capt Skinner
that he would be relieved of his command, as ;
the Jamestown now belonged to the State of j
