(Rt tiik Woman was Clinc.im; to.—The
has been much puzzled, in deciphering
r despatch descriptive of the Confederate
s', to know whether the woman was dinging
The altar or to the youth who was worship-
~ bereat. The official report at hand, up-
. the native modesty of the sex by making
viie altar the object of her embrace. However,
this is now of hut little moment, as Congress,
before adjourning, threw the woman, youth
and altar, all overboard.
We believe the Flag nut with a similar fate,
and as Congress seems particularly desirous ol
a change, we suggest that for the i>**sen> we
adopt one without colors, to be made of the
same material with clergymen’s gowns.—Sat.
Republican.
Dangerous Toast.—A Washington letter in
the Baltimore Sun has the following:
“E. L. Gantt, of Montgomery county, Md.,
has been arrested on the charge of drinking the
health of Jeff Davis and the Southern army.—
He refused to take the oath of allegiance, and
was sent to the Old Capitol. Several prisoners
have been brought up frdtn Alexandria and
committed, also.
Capture of 3d Georgia Cavalrv.—We find
the following paragraph in the Louisville Jour
nal, of the 1st October, which is the first inti
mation we have seen or heard of the capture ol
Col. Crawford's fine cavalry regiment. It is
too bad that our Generals should forbid the
transmission of news of this character to the
anxious ones at home ; or do they consider the
1 oss of a regiment ol such minor importance
as not to be worth chronicling, and of no inter
est to friends ?—Chattanooga Rebel.
Prisoners to arrive.—The report that the
Third Georgia Cavalry Regiment, Col. Craw
ford, had been captured on Monday in a skir
mish with the Federal troops near Elizabeth
town, has been confirmed. It is not true, how
ever, that the prisoners have been paroled, a.-
they will arrive in this city to-day.
