gr The Augusta Chronicle calls attenf ion
t« the fact that the Federal land tax has been
collected in the counties of Richmond, Chat
ham, Bibb and Fulton, and thinks tbnt the
Governor ought therefore to suspend the col
lection of the State land tax in these coun
ties.
\gT Jii. John A. Bingham, a Radical
candidate for Congress in Ohio, swears ns
as follows: “ So Sielp me God, I will neither
give sleep tu tny eyes, nor slumber to my
eyelids, until I shall have drawn up bills of
impeachment against Andrew Johnson.”
The Sumter Republican says the Sex
ton's rcjKtrt shows that there have been but
ten deaths of white persons in that town
during the six months ending 30th Scptem-
l*r. This is n good showing for Amcricus.
gTMritDocK, the tragediau, who has
•tvera! times honored the Southern hoards
with his presence and been kindly treated by
the pros and public, made a speech at the
Pittsburg Radical Soldiers’ Convention.—
should the South decline the terms of recon
struction offered by Congress, be is for trying
the cannon and bayonet upon us again. The
silly fool seems to think we are discussing
terms of peace and not reconstruction, lie
had better stick to the stage and prate what
other people write and not his own ridiculous
conceptions.
Tnr: Colored Patriots Dissatisfied.—
Fred. Douglass and Jas. Rcdpatli, addressed
a mass meeting of negroes at Pittsburg a few
days ago, anti poured hot shot into the Radi
cal Convention. They complained that not
even Massachusetts sent a bluck hero asdele-
g»tc—that those that went were not admit
ted—that universal negro suffrage was ig
nored because they feared they would lose
several members of Congress by such an
avowal—and tbnt the whole thing, so far as
the black man was concerned, was a humbug
and a cheat. Fred. Douglass said tbe peo
ple sent lions to the Convention, and after
they got tlicro they allowed foxet to speak
for them.
Thus it appears the vaukce Radicals arc
(heating the Northern negroes about as bad
as they have tbe Southern negroes.

WIIAT OUGHT MACON TO DO?

IMPORTANT TO PLANTERS!
The Iron Band and ‘ Arrow Tie” for
Baling Cotton—An Insurance
Against Fire, Wastage and.
Stealage.
T HESE BANDS and TIES are a complete substi
tute for Rope in Baling Cotton, combining
the utmost simplicity, with the greatest possible
security.
They are Cheaper Than Hope—are fastened quick-
_■ and bold the Bale X to W less in size. Every
Band is long enough tor the largest Bale, and can
be instantaneously adapted to the size of any Bale,
while In the Press, as quickly, and with the same
ease as Ropes.
They are manufactured, iu Liverpool, of the best
English iron, cut to uniform lengths of 10 feet,
and put up in bundles of 35 Bands and Ties each—
complete and Inseparable, until opened ont for
use. They arc thoroughly painted, and are not
subject to damage—being equally adapted to Bales
mode by Plant«tlo« Presses in every section of the
country—merchants in tbe interior may deal in
them with creator security than Rope; and the
uniformity of tbe bundles enables both merchants
and planters to determine precisely how to order
for any given number of Bale*.
Since the close of the war, they have been Intro
duced into tbe Misflssipi Valley and Texas, where
they have met with great favor, and are fast super
seding tbe use of Rope. Tbe working of tbe “Ar
row lie” is so simple, that tbe Compr-ssora of
Cotton in No* Orleans have been unable to sustain
themselves iu tbeir opposition to Iron Bands, and
they are now using these Bai.ds and Ties, without
any objection, and with entire satisfaction.
The undersigned—Ageut for this District—is
prepared to furnish them to dealers and consum
ers, In any quantity.
