Tiik Fmod at Chattanooga.—Front a
tlispatcli datetl at Cltickamangn and received
yesterday at tht office of J. Ii. Peck, Esq.,
Master of Transportation, we are informed
that the repairs over the Western arid Atlantic
railroad are being pushed rapidly forward,
and that the construction train will perhaps
run into Chattanooga this evening or to-uior-
row. The main difficulty in 1 he way of re
pairs is in the vicinity of Chiekamauga, and
>etwcen that point and Chattanooga. The
waters were rapidly receding, and the full ex
tent of the injuries would be speedily ascer
tained. The water in the Tennessee river had
so far fallen ns to he within its banks, and
henre the city of Chattanooga, or such of it
as remains, is again visible We are still
unable to furnish a detailed statement of the
great deluge. That it has bem of unprece
dented magnitude, and that the loss to Imth
life and property has been great, the latter,
perhaps, incalculable, there can be no ques
tion.—At. Intel.., 16th.
TnE Freshet in the Ohio Hiveb.—The
Evansville Journal says it is really painful to
witness the greut overflow that now prevails
on the Ohio River. From Evansville almost
t<> Newburgh the wild waste of waters has no
visible boundaries. The waters ore pouring
nornjH the neck ot land, between Evansville
and Henderson, with great violence. Enter
prise is totally submerged, bat the people
wisely provided for such contingency ^ by
building their houses on stilts about a foot
higher than high water mark, and arc in no
special danger of living washed away. No
intercourse, however, can bo held bet we n
neighboring housvs except in boats. Tay-
lorsport. Rome, Alton and the lower portion
of Can n el ion were iuundated, and tbe residents
were compelled to move to the second story,
Hundreds of houses along the shore are par
tially submerged, the inhabitants having been
compelled to vacate. In many cases nouses
arc standing on a small elevation entirely sur
rounded by water, the residents having no
means of intercourse with the rest of man
kind except in Boats. There are no river
banks lrom Louisville to Cairo. On Green
River, also, an unprecedented flood prevails,
inundating nearly h11 the towns and villages.
The towns of Calhoun and Rumsey arc sub
merged. The Knoxville Commercial says
that East Tennessee is literally covered with
mud. The Hudson River is over its banks,
anrl immense beds of flootl wood are floating

safeguard against all malarious diseases, HOSTET-

for pres ention it if not too lato for cure. A single
bottle of this irre.-i-tible herbal tonic will stop the
paroxysms, and a brief course of it will restore the
patient to vigorous health. The prudent add thought

wait for its assaults, will resort to this titee defence
against intermittent and remittent fevors at the com

All the disorders common to the season of fogs aud

Doctor arc fast superseding 1 all the stereotyped
nostrums of the day. Extraordinary cures by Mag
gicl's Pills and Salve have opened the eyes ofthe
public to the inefficiency ofthe (so called) remed
les of others, and upon which people have so long
blindly depended. Maggiel’s Fills are not of the
class that arcewallowed by thedozen, and of which
every box full taken creates an absolute necessity
for another. One or two of Maggiel’s Pills suffices
to place the bowels in perfect order, tone tbe
stomach, create an appetite, and render the spirits
light and buoyant! There is no grijung, and no
reaction in the form pf constipation. If the liver
is affected, its functions are restored; and if the
nervous system is feeble, it is invigorated. This
last quality makes the medicines very desirable for
the wants oi delicate females. Ulcerous and eni;>-
tive diseases are literally extinguished by the dis-
cnfectant power of Maggiel’s Salve. In (act, it is
here announced that illaggiei’s liilious, Dys
