THE TELEGRAPH.
MACON, FRIDAY, JANUARY 10, ISOS.
FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL.
Weekly Review of the RTr.rliet.
OFFICE DAILY TELEGRAPH.)
M-icox. January 3, 1”37. /
QEjrnuL Remarks.—Trade drag? its slow length
alone, and languishes in tho general .-t agnation of the
industrial intorosts of tho country and tho general
scarcity of money, with hut little proMC-t of improve
ment. Indeed, many merchants have lost all hopo of
things getting better this season, and aro content to
cetrid of their present stocks at cost. Wo heard the
remark made by u Northern man that Dry Goods and
Clothing could be bought cheaper in Macon at this
time than in New York city.
Cottoj;.—Sinco our last Weekly Review, tho re
ceipts at this point hare fallen off very considerably
from those of the two previous weeks. It is conceded
that at least two-thirds of the receipts expected hero
for tho entire season hare already eomo to band. Tho
offering stock is amply sufficient to meet all demands,
though there is no disposition on tho part of holders
to glut the market. Tho great drawback to larger
transactions has been the great scarcity of monty with
which to operate. Indeed, much ineonvcnienco has
been experienced by some buyers in obtaining the
ftinds to pay for Cotton bought. It is to be hoped this
stato of a Shirs will cease to exist as the eeason ad-
ranees.
On Saturday, tho 29th ultimo—the first day of the
week now under review—our market continued active
with Cotton at the figures given in Friday’s report.-
On Monday, with a good inquiry fortho better grades,
an advancelof M cent was obtained—Middlings read
ily bringing 12Ji cents. On Tuesday, a still better
feeling existod in our market—Middlings command
ing 13 cents. On Wednesday and Thursday, tho same
Mate of activity and prices continued.
Our market opened this, morning with a Good in
quiry for Middlings at 1SK cents. After tho reception
of favorable noon dispatches, the inquiry increased,
and Middlings were eagerly snapped up at 13& Still
later and better accounts caused holders to withdraw
from the market. We quote, as the closing rates:

The Great Medicines of the Age,
From tic Quitman (.Oa.) Boaaer.]
It is really wonderful with what rapidity the great
medicines of Prof. H. n. Knyton, of Savannah, havo
gained popularity with #io people. They ore in al
most overy b ”ase in Georgia. Florida, and other States
whero thoir curative power* aroTcnown. In Quitman,
it appears almost an impossibility for our druggists
to keep on hand a sufficient supply to meet the im-
menso demand. Wherever tested they have been pro
nounced the “Great Medieine of the Age;” and in
many iustanoe* miraculous cures have been effected.
"Kayton’s Oleum Vitso” is for the cure of rheuma
tism. rains, tooth and car ache, and many other dis-’
cases of similar character. "Kayton’s Magio Cure”
is the remedy for diarrhoea, coughs, colds, as htna, etc.
"Kayton’s Dyspeptio Pills” aro a suro remedy for
dyspepsia, bilious disorders and nil derangements of
tho stomach.
Those who aro afflicted and havo not given theso
valuable medicines » trial, should mako no delay in
procuring them. They can be bad, wholesale, from
tho Proprietor or Messrs. A. A. Solomon A Co., Sa-
"vannah. or at retail of Dr. McCall, Quitman, who has
very recently procured a good supply.
A. A. Solomons A Co., wholesale druggists, Savan-

all orders for the genuine, which must have the sig
nature of H. II. Ilayton, on ench bottle and box.

Fancy tlie Dismay
Which would prevail in thousands of households, if
it should be suddenly announced throughout the
UnUefStates. Canadas, the West Indies end Spanish
America, that no more HOSTETTER’3 BITTERS
would bo manufactured, and that henceforth tho
grand specific for dyspepsia, and preventive ofali ma

in crowded city tenements; the convalescent, needing
an invigorant; thethivering victim of ague, and the
nervous of both sexes everywhere, would learn, with
grief too deep for words, that tho most celebrated cor
rective, invigorant and alterative of the age bad been
blotted out of existence. As a preparatory antidote
to epidemic disease, a genial stimulant, a promoter of
eonstitutional vigor, an appetiser, a stomachic, and a
remedy for nervous debility, no medicinal prepara
tion hw ever attained tho reputation of IIOSTET-

49-JAYER’S CATHARTIC PILLS ARE THE
most perfect purgative we are able to produce, and,
as we think, has ever yet been made by. anybody.—
Their effects have abundantly shown to the commU'
nity how much they excel the other medicines in use.
They are safe and pleasant to take, but powerful to
cure. Their penetrating properties stimulate the vital
activities of the body, remove {ho obstructions of its
organs, purify the blood, and expl) disease. They
purge out the foul humors which breed and grow dis
temper, stimulate sluggish or disordered organs into
their natural action, and impart tone and strength to
the whole system. Not only do they euro the every
day complaints of everybody, but formidable and dan'
gerous diseases. While they produce powerful effects,
they arc at tho same time, in diminished doses, the
safest and best physic that can be employed for chil
dren. Being sugar-coated, they are pleasant to take
and, being purely vegetable, are entirely harmless.—
Cures have been made that would surpass belief, were
they not substantiated by men ol such exalted charac
ter, as to forbid the suspicion of untruth. Many emi
nent clergymen and physicians certify to the public
the reliability of our remedies. whi& others havo sent
ns the assurance of their conviction that our Prepara
tion* contribute immensely to the relief of onr afflic
ted fellow-men.
The Agent below named is pleased to furnish, gratis,
our American Almanac, containing directions for the
use of these medicines and certificates of their cures
of the following complaints:
Ccstiveness, Bilious Complaints, Rheumatism,
Dropsy. Heartburn, Headache arising from foul stom
acb, Nausea, Indigestion, Morbid Inaction of the
Bowels and Pain arising therefrom. Flatulency, Loss
of Appetite, all disessca which require au evacuant
medicine. They also, by purifying the blood and
stimulating the system, cure many complaints which
it would not be supposed they could re.icb, such as
Deafness, Partial Blindness, Neuralgia and Nervous
Irritability, Derangement of the Livor and Kidneys,
Gout, and other kindred disorders arising from a low
state of the body, or obstructions of its functions.
Do not bp put off by unprincipled dealers with other
preparations on which they mako more profit. Do
mand Area’s and take no others. The sick want
the best aid there is for them, and they should have it.
