FINDLAY IRON WORKS, MILLING AND
manufacturing company.
For acme time past, Mr. J. H. Mills, the enter
>prUin#r proprietor of tho Agricultural Depot on
Second street, has had In contemplation tho forma
tion of a company for the purpose of carrying on
alarge business of various kinds at some point in
the city. IVe arc glad to learn that tho Findlay
Iron Works, which has so long been idle, have
been leased for the purpose, and from tho pros-
. pectus in another column it will be seen that the
‘tbmpuiy has been organised. Mr. George \V.
Adams, long a resident of this city and a gentle
man of enterprise and practical business talent
aud sagacity, is the President. Mr. J. H. Mills,

stock of $ 100,000—$40,000 is already subscribed.
Theee is probably a good deal of capital in the city
Becking investment. Hero is a splendid opportu

but profitably to the capitalist We hope It will
soon be made np.
The foundry business is to be one branch.—
Those works made Mr. Findlay, their founder, a
splendid fortune.

A Pa BA CHIB, in a fun oral sermon on a lady,
alter summing up her good qualitit-i, added
that site always readied her husband his hat,
when ho called for it, without muttering.
An iionbst old lady in the country, when
told of her husband's death, exclaimed, “Well,
I do declare, our troubles never comes alone 1

TnEitK is a deacon in a neighboring town
named Day. One Sabbath morning he heard
a number of boys playing in front of the
bouse, nnd lie went out to stop their Sabbath
breaking. Assuming a grave countenance,
be 6aid to them:
“Boys, do you know what day this is?"
“Yes,” replied nn urchin, “it’s Deacon
Day."
“What news to-day?” said a merchant to
bis frieud, lately.
“What news ?" responded the other; “noth
ing, only tilings grow better—people are get
ting on tlicir legs again.”
“On their legs l” said the first. “I don't
seo how you can make that out.”
“Why, yes,” replied the other; “folks that
used to ride arc obliged to walk now; is not
that getting on their legs again 1 ”
A oood anecdote is told of a well known
vagabond, who was brought before a magis
trate as a common vagrant. Having sudden
ly harpooned a good iden, lie pulled from the
capacious pocket of his tattered coat a loat
of bread aad a half dried codfish, and hold
ing them up with n triumphant look and ges
ture to the magistrate, exclaimed:
“You don’t catch me that way; I’m no va
grant. Ain’t that visible means of support,
I should like to know i ”
“Sm," said one of two antagonists, with
great dignity to tho other, during a dispute
.vliich had not been confined to words, "you
have called me a liar nnd a scoundrel, you
have spit in my face, you have struck me
twice. I hope you will not arouse the sleep
ing lion in my breast’, for if you should, I
cannot tell what may be the consequences! ”
Misundeustood TnE Text.—A worthy
deacon hired a journeyman farmer lrom n
neighboring town for the summer, and induced
him, although he was unaccustomed to
church-going, to accompany tho family to
church on the first Sabbath of his stay. Upon
their return to the dencon’s house, lie t.sked
his hired man how lie liked the preaching.
He replied --
“I don’t like to hear any minister preach
politics.”
“I am very sure you heard r.o politics to
day," replied thedoacon.
“1 am sure that I did," said the man.
"Mention the passage, replied the deacon.
"1 will." He said: “litheDeim..rats scarce
ly arc saved, where will tin Kip ; •'.■ ;.s ap

“Ah," said the deacon, “you mistake.
These were the words: ‘If the righteous
scarcely are saved, how will the wicked aud
ungodly appear?’ ”
“O, yes," said the man "he tr.ig have used
those words, but 1 know deuced well tv hat ho i
meant.”
FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL
Weekly Review of the Market.
OFFICE OAH.J.JSStS 1 ''}
QkskraL Rbjurks.—The rapid and unprecedented
rise in Cotton, a? we feared, will mislead many plant
er.) into preparing for the planting of more cotton
than they at fir.-t anticipated doing, though not to the
extent fondly anticipated by the cotton consumer?
and speculator? of Liverpool aud New York. If the
planter is prudent, raise? corn enough to do him next
year, tho cotton that be produces upon the balance of
his lands will be almost clear gain. The better poli
cy of the planter, however, is to plant less land than
heretofore, and use fertilizers more freely upon that
cultivatod, which will bo found ft more profitable in
vestment than in cultivating a larger area, with high-
priced and unreliable labor. Tho experiment is
worthy of a trial.
Tho warehouses and stores of our dealers in Grain
and Provisions are filled wilh everything needed by
the plunter for making another crop. Tho principal
demand, however, lie? been for Bacon—most of those
planting last year having made corn enough to last a
portion of the season, while some few have been for
tunate as to gather enough to last them through
the entire planting season.
As but few country merchants will visit New York
this season to lay in Spring goods, tho merchants of
Jlncc-n can reasonably rely upon doing a much better
trade than that of last year, as the trado will ho divi
ded betVMB Savannah and Mafon. Already, many
dcnlor3 have received and are receiving their seasona
ble goods. As many ofthese stocks were purchased be
fore Cotton attained the high prico at which it is now
ruling in New York, not only the country merchant
but tho planter might find it advantageous to pur
chase here, snd at this time. Somolittlo is doing
already, but tho country Spring trado has not yet
fairly set in.
Cottos.—The advanoo in our market since the close
of our last Weekly Rovicw has been fully 2 cents at
the tljcn closing quotations of "2'A cents. Middlings
reached W4 cents on Tuesday, tho 10th. Since
then our raarkot has yielded to tho inactivity, dull-
ness and dcclino cf tho New York market, nnd sales
are rather difficult to effect, neither buyers nor holders
being anxious to operato at present. It is generally
conceded that tho recent advances havo been caused
by the well ascertained fact that tho crop of 1SG7 has
been oTcr-ostimated by fully 1,0 ",000. Tho falling off
in rccoipts of Americen Cotton at Liverpool, and tho
had and trashy quality of India Cotton, have had
much to do with tho rise, and holders contend will
continue to operate in favor of tho American staple.
On Thursday our market was dull and prices fell
off under tho pressure of unfavorable accounts from
New York. To-day (Friday) tho samestato of affairs
existed as on the previous day, and the transactions
were fow and far between—2216 cents being tho high
est figure paid for Middlings. Wo quote tho follow-

A Few Words to the Ladles.
.Many ladies, particularly mothers nursing, com
plain of s tired, listless feeling, or complete exhaus
tion, on arising in the morning. On the wife and
mother devolves the responsibility of regulating the
duties of the household. Her cares are numerous,
and the mental as well a? physical powers are fre
quently cabled into requisition. She often finds her
slightest occupation a weary task and existence a
burden, while at the same time she has no regular
disease. HOSTETTER’S STOMACH BITTERS, if
resorted to at this period, will prove an unfailing
remedy for this annoying lassitude. The effects of
this potent agent are soon seen in the rosy check and
clastic step of the head of the family, as with restored
health and renewed spirits she takes her accustomed
place in the family circle. If this friend in need be
regularly used, those depressing symptoms will never
bo complained of, nnd not only would lassitude not be
experienced, but many diseas os following its advent
be avoided. Asn Medical Acent it has no equal,
while - its pleasing flavor and healthful effects have
made it a general favorite. It is freo from all proper
ties calculated to impair the system, and its operations
are at once mild, soothing and efficient. All who havo
used the Bitters attest its virtues and commend it to
use.

QUEEN’S DELIGHT.
EXTRACTS FROM LETTERS —“The Queea’s De
light is beginning lo awaken the attention of enr
pkyri 2:aos. Its remarkable curative power ia aoeOin
its wonderful effect upon‘ incase. As a blood-purifier
there is no medicine like it known to the profession.—
A gentleman told me that his son has been taking the
Queen’s Delight, and is more benefited by it than by
any ot!- cr medicine. lie wants a dozen bottles.”
Extract from a letter: “It is duo to you to rialc m
this public manner, In order that tho people may know
the truth, that I have tried yo r Queen’s Delight, acd
found it not only what you said it was—“a pure medi
cine’—but tho be9tmed:pine I have ever taken for
eruptions and general bad health. I had r.n eruption all
over my body, with impaired digestion nDd disordered
liver, and havo tried a grtat many medicines without
any benefit. I havo taken one bottle of your Queer, a
Delight, the eruption has disappeared, my appetite U
better, my liver aud digestion is irnj>rovcd. I am satis
fied one or two more bottles will euro me.” .
Extract lrom a letter: “At the close of the war, my
constitution was riiatterod. I could not cat, sleep or
perform any duty whatever, such was my prostrate con
dition. Medicine and medical aid I had in abundance.
Such was my condition up to a few months since, when
1 began the use of-your Queen’s Deliuht. i have med
two bottles, iny constitution is greatly improved, my
appetite is good, enjoy refreshing s'.eep, and am able to
perform my share of daily labor. *
Extract from a letter: Wonderful effect of only one 1
bottle: ‘*1 have used only a half bottle of ‘Queen's De- ‘
Jjgut' f<»r boils a:id crupta n- oi’the '■kin and itching h»-
more of the b’ood, which annoyed me very much, 1
am entirely cured. I think your medicine a valuable |
one.”
A remarkable case of liver complaint and headache j
ured by the use of “Heiuitsh’s Queen’s Delight:” A
lady of unquestioned worth and reputation voluntarily j
gives testimony of the wonderful effects of this medf* I
cine. She has been from early years a martyr to head
aches, caused by imperfect action of the liver, producing j
intense headache and pain over the eye. She has.taken •
only four bottles, aud assures us of the perfect cure it i
has made. She now enjoys good health.
Still another, “During last spring, I had been troubled
with obstinate chills and fever, which, when cured, left
my system in a wrctehel condition, blood impure, and 1
I was afflicted with an angry, and, ns intone time
thought, nn incurable, cutaneous eruption over my cn- ■
tire body. Tho most violent remedies suggested puled ;
to work a cure, until, at the instance of a friend, I tried •
Dr. Hcmitsh’s Queen's Delight. Less than two bottles i
cured me, leaving my skin in a healthy condition. My j
general health is a* good as ever. For such purposes, j
I have, ever sincornv euro, unhesitatingly recommend- j
ed your Queen's Delight.” '
Don’t buy any but tho right kind. All genuine Queen s
Delight has the cony-right mark on the outside, and it ,
