Time It! In five minutes Gas,
- Sourness and Indigestion
is gone
Do some foods you ear nit back—
taste good, but work .badly; ferment
Into stubborn lumps and cause a sick,
sour, gassy stomach? Now, Mr. or
Mrs. Dyspeptic jot this down: Pape's
Diapepsin digests everytmng, leaving
nothing to sour and upset you. There
never was anything so safely quick, so
certainly effective. No difference how
badly your stomach is disordered you
will get happy relief in five minutes, but
what pleases you most is that^ it
strengthens and regulates your stomach
so you can eat your favorite foods
without fear.
The inauguration of the parcel post
is one of the greatest benefits to the
country people and truck farmers.
Previous to this law the farmers and
country people could not derive satisfac
tory results from their truck farming,
because there was so much delay and
red tape connected with shipping goods
of this kind they would often spoil
before they reached their destination.
This is especially true of vegetables
and fruits, but now the parcel post has
changed this entirely; the farmers can
send their products for a very small
cost and at the same time be assured
of a safe and quick delivery. Just drop
a card to the house to which the goods
are to be sent, telling them you will
ship so much on a certain day, the
house will be prepared to receive them,
and they are sure to arrive in &ood
condition.
The rates are very reasonable and
the farmer can derive much benefit from
their once unprofitable products; they
can easily add to their income.
Butter, eggs and vegetables are the
principal products which the farmers
ship, but any other food products or
necessity can be turned into prdfit by
using the parcel post. They can get the
regular market price as the purchasers
are glad to get them, because they know
them to be fresh.
Many thousands of pounds of farm
product^ have been shipped in this man
ner since the law went into effect, Jan
uary 1. Get in communication with
dealers in the cities and have them han
dle your goods, or better still, sell di
rect to the consumer, if possible.
This law is of just as much benefit
when buying as when selling; order the
article, it will be sent by parcel post,
thus assuring a safe and quick deliv
ery. Here are the rates as applied to
the different zones:

Most remedies give you relief some
times—they are slow, but not sure. Dia
pepsin is quick, positive and puts your
stomach in a heatlhy condition so the
misery won’t come ba«*.
You feel different as soon as Dia
pepsin comes in contact with the stom
ach—distress just vanishes—your stom
ach gets sweet, no gases, no belching,
no eructations of undigested food, your
head clears and you feel fine.
Go now, make the best investment
you ever made by getting a large fifty-
cent case of Pape’s Diapepsin from
any drug store. You realize in five
minutes how needless it is to suffer
from indigestion, dyspepsia or any stom
ach disorder.—(Advt.)

SAM KATZ, Suite 730,
Michigan Ave.
NEW YORK, Jan. 28.—Mrs. Helen D.
Longstreet, widow of the famous Con
federate general, came to the aid of her
husband’s Civil war foe, General Daniel
E. Sickles, Monday, with an offer to
raise $23,476 among; the “ragged and
maimed followers of Lee,” to pay Gen
eral Sickles’ alleged debt to the state
of New York.
Sheriff Harburger, who arrested Gen
eral Sickles yesterday in the civil suit
brought by the state to recover the
money, also directed a letter to many
of the richest men in New York ask
ing them to aid the aged veteran.
In a telegram sent to General Sickles
from Gainesville, Ga., Mrs. Longstreet
said she had telegraphed to the attor
ney general of the state of New York
that she would raise the money among
the Confederate veterans if allowed
sufficient time. “The republic whose
battles you fought will not permit your
degradation,” were her closing words
to General Sickles.
WHAT SHE WIRED.
Mrs. Longstreet’s telegram to Gen
eral Sickles follows:
“My soul is sorrowed by your trou
bles. I am wiring the attorney general
of New York that I will raise money
afnong the ragged, destitute and maimed
veterans who followed Lee to pay the
amount demanded if the New York of
ficials will allow sufficient time. The
republic whose battles you fought will
not permit your degredation.
“HELEN D. LONGSTREET.”
Mr.\ Longstreet’s telegram to the
attorney general of New York was as
follows:
“The south is shocked and sorrowed
by the report that the state of New
York has issued a warrant for the ar
rest of the hero of Gettysburg. In >the
midst of the financial trouble that
shadows hi^s last days, we remember
Daniel E. Sickles as the grim warrior

“HELEN D. LONGSTREET.’’
The sheriff addressed his letter to
J. P. Morgan, John D. Rockefeller, An
drew Carnegie and the 450 members of
the sheriff’s panel, composed of wealthy
New Yorkers.
Sheriff Harburger dealt gently with
his prisoner. Instead of serving the
order of arrest yesterday morning he
waited until General Sickles* lawyer,
Daniel P. Hays, had arranged with a
surety company for a $30,000 bond for
the veteran’s freedom. Mr. Hays
brought it to the sheriff’s office and they
went to General Sickles’ Fifth avenue
home that afternoon.
‘Well, general,” the sheriff greeted
him. It’s a bit of formal business to
day. You know I have to serve you
with these papers; I’m sorry I have to
do so, but I have no choice.”^
“It is all right,” General Sickles re
plied, tossing the unopened order and
complaint on his library table. “You’re
one of the best friends I’ve got, sher
iff.”
They placed the bond before the gen
eral and be signed it in a flowing band.
“That handwriting is not so bad for
a man who is more than ninety-two
years old, sheriff,” he commented. It
cost me $600 to get this bond.”
There was a fee of $5.25 owing the
county for service of the papers. Gener
al Sickles summoned Miss r:dith Wil-

LONDON. Jan. 29.—The British cabi
net today decided to drop the franchise
bill. This decision was in deference to
the speaker’s ruling that the form and
substance of the measure would be so
materially altered by the amendment
granting the vote to women that it
ought to be held in the shape of a
new bill.
The precincts of the house of com
mons presented many of the features
of a well-defended encampment, when
the house met this afternoon to brin
to a conclusion the current chapter of
the work for the enfranchisement of
women.
Mounted and foot police were to be
seen everywhere. Two thousand patrol
men and 100 mounted men were actually
on duty, while reserves were Hidden
nearby ready to pounce upon any suf
fragettes who should attempt to break
the peace. Besides this, the leave of
all the other policemen belonging to
the metropolitan force had been stop
ped.
Premier Asquith repudiated the sug
gestion that the government had been
guilty of sharp practice regarding the
question of woman suffrage. He de
clared members of the carj?net honestly
had endeavored to carry out their pledg*
to challenge a decision from the house
on woman suffrage.
The government, he continued, had
now pledged itself to give to a woman
suffrage bill introduced by a private
member next session the same 'facilities
It had given to the controversal govern
ment measure, allowing members com
plete freedom to vote in accordance
with the predilections.
Those suffragettes who had been ad
mitted into the outer lobby of the house
o'f commons and those in the vicinity of
the ho#se, took the rebuff to t?ieir hopes
with ominous quiet.
The outer lobby was safely guarded
by lines of police anc the Inner sanc
tum was crowded with representatives
of various suffrage societies, Dut there
was no deynonstr-ation wlien Premier
Asquith’s announcement became known.
Mrs. Emmerline # Pankhurst and her
sisfer militants will have a meeting to
night to settle their course of action.
The great display of police effectual
ly dampened any projected outbreaks on
the open space fronting the houses of
parliament.
After the government decision had
become known Mrs. i*ankhurst stated
that the women ould not accept the
suggestion of a private member’s bill.
She added;
“Unless we are told that we are to
have a government measure giving
equal voting rights to men and wom
en, or that the so-called suffragist
ministers have resigned, our duty Is
immediate to resume militancy.”
After the speaker’s ruling it was only
a question whether the cabinet would
announce its capitulation before or after
the vote had been taken on Sir Edward
Grey’s amendment. The amendment
called for the omissi^p cf the word
“male” and thus practically introduced
adult suffrage.
At the opening of today’s session
Premier Asquith asked the speaker toi
state again in more definite form that
if any of the women’s amendments
were carried, the franchise bill would
become substantially a new bill and
would have to be withdrawn.
This done, Mr. Asquith announced
that the cabinet would not prolong the
discussion under the circumstances, but
would drop the bill. The government,
he added, would at Its own time and
within the lifetime of the present par
liament proceed with bills dealing with
electoral reform and plural voting.
