MEXICO CITY, Feb. 14.—Federal en-
1 gineers this morning began placing a
series of mines charged with dynamite
beneath certain houses between the na
tional palace and the arsenal.
The explosion of these is expected to
clear a passage four blocks long througn
which the artillerymen will direct^ mor
tar fire against Diaz and his army in
their positions about the arsenai.
The buildings in this doomed section
are constructed wall to wall and the
district is densely populated. Residents
were warned during the night to evac
uate their homes. All escaped with
nothing but their personal belongings.
TO DEMOLISH ARSENAL.
General Huerta, the federal command
er, declared that with a short trajectory,
the projectiles from the mortars would
soon demolish the arsenal. For this
purpose it was necessary to destroy the
houses before attempting to dislodge
the rebels.
TO COLLECT THE DEAD.
Just before noon the White Cross
society endeavored to arrange a truce
for two hours, in order to collect the
dead and wounded. The federal lire be
came less intense and the rebel artillery
also slackened slightly.
FEDERALS DESERT.
About noon some straggling bands of
federal soldiers passed the United States
embassy. It was believed they were
deserters and the impression grew that
the government troops were refusing to
continue lighting.
TO DEMOLISH PALACE.
Felix Diaz late in tlie morning issued
a notice that he was about to increase
the force of his bombardment of the
national capital. He warned non-com
batants to withdraw from the danger
zone. More persistent firing on the pal
ace by the rebels then began.
The fire from the reuel batteries kept
up very rapid throughout the morning,
but at about 10 o’clock a decrease was
noticed in that from the government
artillery.
DIAZ ASKS RECOGNITION.
Diaz this morning asked for recogni- j
tion as a belligerent by the United i
States government in an informal note j
to Ambassador Wilson, stating that he
was In complete control of the city.
Ambassador Wilson replied promptly
to the rebel leader, explaining that while
Diaz’s statement might be correct, his
own eye was untrained in military af
fairs and he was not able to see the sit
uation as Diaz explained it. He added
that he was assured by President Ma
dero that the government remained in
control. *

The president-elect will attend the
smoker of the Princeton alymni. Mrs.
Wilson and the daughters will dine at
the Shoreharn and spend the evening and
night there. Governor Wilson will not
make a speech at the Smoker.
Governor Wilson feels that his in
augural address should be the only
speech made at the time of his inau
guration. He will spend the night at
the Shoreharn.
THE GREAT DAY.
March 4.—President-elect Wilson will
drive to the White house fro mthe Shore-
ham shortly before noon to* meet Pres

drive from the hotel to the senate, same
purpose.
After the inauguration of Vice-Presi
dent Marshall, the party will go to the
inaugural stand in front of the capitol,
where President-elect Wilson will be
given the oath of office, and will deliver
his inaugural address.
As soon as he has finished he and ex-
President Taft will drive back to the
White House over the route to be taken
by the parade, Wilson on the right and
Taft on the left.
Mrs.'Wilson and the daughters wilk be
driven to the White House at the same
time by a -short cut, the party being
transported as quickly as possible to
get there ahead of the parade.
WHITE HOUSE INVASION.
When the Wilsons enter the White
House then, it will be to take posses
sion of the house that is to be their
home for four years. The party will
immediately go to luncheon, at which
there will be a number of guests, of
whom some will probably be the new
cabinet members.
As soon as lunch Is finished, the I
president-elect and his family will go j
to the stand In front of the White |
House, from which he will review the i
inaugural parade, the (head of which j
will be timed to arrive just as lunch is
over.
Governor Wilson said neither he nor
the members of his family had accept
ed any social invitations for the inau
guration period. H e -said they would
have several relatives as guests at the
inauguration, but that the list was not
ready for publication.
When Governor Wilson’s attention
was called to the report that his broth
er, Joseph R. Wilson, of Nashville,
Tenn., had withdrawn as a candidate
for secretary of the state, he said:
“That is something I have known
nothing about. I have had nothing to
do with it at any time.”

cotton firm of A. W. Muse & Co., and
one of Albany’s leading citizens, in an
accident which occurred at his palatial
home, corner of Madison and Commerce
streets, yesterday afternoon. He was
about to enter a buggy to drive to town,
and had reached out for the lines when
the frisky black pony he drives sudden
ly jumped forward.
Holding the lines in his hands while
trying to stop the pony, Mr. Muse ran
a short distance alongside the buggy,
not realizing that he was so close to a
Jree, until he fell and his left shoulder
was badly crushed between thf^tree and
one of the wheels of the buggy. A
double fracture of the shoulder was the
result. ]^fr. Muse rested well last night,
and his many friends will be glrfd to
know that he is doing as nicely as could
be .expected. The injury is of such a
character, however, that the patient will
be laid up for some time.

We Are the Only House Big
Enough to Pay Regular
Weekly Salaries
We “started something” when we put
an announcement offering real salaries
tailoring agents. This you understand, is in addition
to the big cash commissions you make on every sale.
It means double pay, It was the first offer of a regular
weekly salary ever made in this business. People thought we
were crazy. But we had seen so many men easily make $35 to $65 a week on
just commissions, that we figured—if it is easy to make that much on com
missions, think how much more the average man can make with a steady,
regular, weekly salary behind him. The success of our salary plan uias established over
night — it was instantaneous. So, if you ever see any of the old style tailoring agents ads
again offering commissions alone—just remember what a small chahce you have with them
when they say, “The greatest money-making chance,” etc. It is a chance that you take. But
on our salary offer we take the chance. See the difference? We are the only house that pays
you big commissions and a Regular Salary. And, bear in mind; we don’t just pay salaries ^
while business is good. Your pay check oomes in regularly during dull times as well (we guarantee this.)
Money Talks—Are You Listening?
$5 to $IO a Day Is Easy '
It's a cinch to sell our swell tailor-mades and make

house offers you—only we do it on a bigger, broader more

wnickerbocker suits and pants cost less—and when sold,
you know in advance your customers are going to be
more satisfied than if they paid twice as much else-

What was obtained from the public
