dizziness and nausea; eructations of
acid and undigested food—remember as
soon as Pape’s Diapepsin comes in con
tact with the stomach all such distress
vanishes. Its promptness, certainty
and ease in overcoming the worst stom

E/GLE PASS, -Tex.,. Feb. 26.—The
stage is completely set today on the
Mexican border opposite this section of
Texas for a new Mexican revolt, that
of Governor V. Carranza, of the state
of Coahuila. He has officially pro
claimed the Huerta government “spu
rious.”
The -international bridge across the
Rio Grande here to the Mexican town
of Piedras Negras is today lined with
men, women and children refugees,
mostly Mexicans, carrying pet animals,
boxes and bright colored bundles, all
fleeing to the American side for pro
tection against possible fighting about
Piedras Negras. The streets of Engle
Pass are crowded with Mexican refu
gees.
Color-el % Emilio Carranza, with 200
volunteers, favoring the revolt, is pre
paring to resist a detachment of fed
erate supporting Huerta, said to be
south of Piedras Negras.
Last night Colonel Carranza cap
tured twenty-five federals several
miles below the city.
Today he sent a detachment of forty
men to Las Vacas, the Mexican town
opposite Del Rio, Tex. Colonel Car
ranza expects this kittle band to occu
py Las Vacas without trouble. .
U. S. TROOPS READY.
United States troops are preparing
to protect Americans on the border in
case this latest revolt imperils them.
Captain Bigler is here in charge a
squad of thirty federal cavalrymen and
a full troop bf United States cavalry
from Fort Clark is due here this aft
ernoon. Captain Bigler says he ex
pects no trouble in protecting Ameri
can interests.
Governor Carranza is reported to be
in the vicinity of Monclava, Mexico. He
today wired President T&ft and Pres
ident-elect Wilson the following:
“The Mexican nation condemns the
villianous coup which have deprived
her of her constitutional rulers who
were cowardly assassinated, but is
aware that her institutions are alive
and disposed to sustain them. I am cer
tain that both the government of your
excellency as well as that of your suc
cessor will not accept the spurious gov
ernment which Huerta is attempting
to establish upon crime an<^, treason,
but will proceed with eircumspectfon
toward the social and* political interests
of our country.” •
Death to Name of Madero

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 26.—Emilio Ma

join the rebels holding Neuvo Laredo,
when h^ was overtaken by troops seijt
by General Trevino. The reports do
not indicate whether Madero was killed
in action or was executed.
The shooting took place between
Villadama and Bastamento.
As the rebel leader in the Laredo
district. Geronimo Villareal, is a parti
san of General Trevino, the government
expects that the trouble in that vicini

Soon after, the Georgia Railway and

securing of power from the waters of

for the power company claim that the

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 25—The Mexi

closed the port of ent r y at Earedo on
the Texas frontier, at the same time
admitting that the rebels were in pos
session of the town.
EL PASO, Tex., Feb. 25.—Ninety-five
federal volunteer soldiers were execute^
late yesterday at Sauz, below Juarez.
They compose part of the garrison which
revolted Sunday, angered at the killing
of ex-President Madero, their former
leader. \
Advices received here relate that sol
diers were stood against an adobe wall,
all at one time. Ninety-five times the
firing squad aimed and fired, most of
the men are said to have displayed much
courage, declining the execution mask.
More than fifty of the garrison es
caped before the arrival.early yesterday
of a strong detachment of federal regu
lar troops from Chihuahua City.
The rebels of a day had cut the Mexi
can Central railway which was repaired
a few hours later. Five of the volun

Bowels Get Weak
As Age Advances
The First Necessity is to
Keep the Bowels Gently
Open With a Mild
Laxative- Tonic
Healthy old age is so absolutely de
pendent upon the condition of the bow
els that great care should be taken to
see that they act regularly. The fact is
that as age advances the stomach mus
cles became weak and inactive and the
liver does hot store up the juices tha:
are necessary to prqjnpt digestion.
Some help can be obtained by eating
easily digested foods and by plenty of j
exercise, but- this* latter is irksome to |
most elderly people. One thing is cer '
tain, that a stgite of constipation should ;
always be avoided as it is dangerous !
to life and health. The best plan is to j
take a mild laxative as often as is !
Ideemed necessary. But with equal egr- j
tainty it is suggested that cathartics, ;
purgatives, physics, salts and pills be I
avoided, as they do but temporary good
and are so harsh as to be a shock to a
delicate system.
A much better plan, and one that
thousands of elderly people are follow
ing, is to take a gentle laxative-tonic
like Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin, which
acts as nearly like nature as is possi
ble. In fact, the tendency of this rem
edy is to strengthen the stomach and
bowel muscles and so train them to act
naturally again, when medicines* of all
kinds can usually be dispensed with.
This is the opinion of mai>y- people of
different ages, among th^m Mr. O. P.
Miller, Baroda. Mich., who writes: “I
am 80 years old and have been consti
pated fof many years. Since receiving

EFFICIENCY OF NEW PLAN
LI, S, Army Reorganization
Proves Much Better Than
Old Plan
WASHINGTON, Feb. 26.—With the ,
outlook of armed opposition to the new
provisional government in Mexico re
duced to a few small threatened upris
ings by followers of the late President
Madero, it is the opinion of administra
tion officials here that cnances for the
use of the military arm to protect
American interests have greatly di
minished.
Concentration of troops at Galveston
will continue, but admittedly the pur- j
pose now is principally to test the j
working of the new system of army re- j
organization.
Major General Carter, commander of I
the second division, due to arrive in !
Galveston within the next twenty-four
hours, will take the opportunity af
forded by the assembly of a complete
division of troops to put them through
their paces, thus affording to the va- i
rious regimental and brigade command
ers practically their first opportunity
to direct the movements of the large
bodies of men that would fall to their
command in time of war.
If the complete division is assem
bled in Galveston, at Texas City, about
seven miles distant, ahd in the camp
jukt opened near Houston before the
end of the present week, the military
experts feel that they will have ac
complished a creditable feat.
ILL-TIMED EXPLl

The Government Engineers in
Spain Were Blasting
Away a' Hill
GIJON, Spain, Feb. 26.—Upwards- of
200 people were killed or wounded by
the ill-timed explosion of a charge of
7,000 pounds of black powder, which
had been laid yesterday by government
engineers with the object of razing an
enormous block of rock.
An immense concourse of towns people
had gathered to witness the demoli
tion of the hill separating Gijon from
the coaling harbor of Musel, a mile and
a half distant. The object of the op
eration was to cut a roadway and thus
avoid the present long detour.
At the hour fixed, the fuse was lighted
and the explosion occurred. But in
stead of the rock being blasted, hun
dreds of tons of clay and small stones
were hurled like artillery projectiles
among the assembled spectators: Whole j
families were mowed down. Many of
the engineers and municipal officials
were killed.

Counsel for Five Defendants
Attack Indictment Drawn
by Government Expert
(By Associated Press.)
SAVANNAH, Ga., Feb. 24.—Counsel
for the five defendants in the United
States court today attacked the joint in
dictment in the so-called “meat trust”
cases pending here.
The indictment was assailed from ev
ery angle. The entire session was de
voted to arguments on demurrers, but
the hearing had not been finished when
adjournment hour was reached.
Judge Speer, after consulting counsel,
continued the arguments until March 1.
The court is being urged to throw the
entire indictment out of court.
The bill was prepared by one of the
department of justice’s experts, sent to
Savannah for that specific purpose at
the time the case was being investigat
ed by the United States grand jury three
years ago. The expert who drew the
indictment is the author of a standard
book on federal court indictments. Coun
sel for the defense insisted that he did
not follow his own forms in the prepa
ration of this instrument.

Few people realize to what extent
their health depends upon the condition
of the kidneys.
The physician in nearly all cases of
serious illness, makes a chemical analy
sis of the patient’s urine. He knows
that unless the kidneys are doing their
work properly, the^other organs cannot
be brought back to health and strength.
When the kidneys are neglected or
abused in any way, serious results are
sure to follow. According to health
statistics, Bright’s disease which is
really an advanced form of kidney trou
ble; caused nearly ten thousand deaths
In 1910, in the state of New York alone.
Therefore, it behooves us to pay more
attention to the health of these most
Important organs.
An ideal herbal compound 4hat has
had remarkable success as a kidney
