HAYWARD & CLARK’S COTTON LETTER
NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 27.—Silver in London
is again 3-16 lower today. Memphis reported
h plus correction in stock of 4,020 bales. Liv
erpool developed • further strength, showing
futures about 4 points better than due and
large spot sales. \
The Mexican situation is considered much
better. The government is apparently gaining
control anti quickly suppressing counter revolu
tions. The map shows lair weather In Texas
and Okihhomu; cloudy elsewhere. General pre
cipitation overnight; heavy in northwest Texas
and m tho central and eastern states. Indica
tions are for fair In the southern aalf of the
belt, but cloudy and further rains hi the north
ern half, particularly In the northeastern quar
ter, comprising east Tennessee, northeast Ala
bama, north Gfcogia and the Carolinas.
Our market opened about 4 points higher,
but trading was rather quiet. Scattered, small
demand, based on% the good Liverpool, the
weather and bullish wires from New York,
hold the market. Expectation of bull.si
par; sous of mill takings tomorrow checked
willing. We compare with only 310,000 tak
ings last year. After this week last year
spinners’ takings were on a record scale right
^loug, wliiie the cnances are that a material
decrease will be shown from new on 4his year
iu .sympathy with the enormous decline in ex
ports, already amounting to cldse to 1,300,000
bales since December 15. The Into sight for
u:e week looks around Jf20,00U, against
last year. The market eased after Liverpool
closed, when straddle buying was eliminated on
the weather forecast, promising better weather
and the bearish trade report from Liverpool,
also on quieter spot demand.
N- La CARPENTER & CO. COTTON LETTER
NEW YORK, Feb. 27.—The buying of March
by brokers who usually represent spot Inter
ests was the feature of the morning trading.
There was considerable selling, however, by
same brokers of distant months, and It Is be
lieved all notices Issued tomorrow will be
stopped by the spot people. There Is con
tinued • selling by Wall street speculators and
the uptown crowd, one operator Is said to
have sold 20,000 bales short this morning and
that another sold the same amount May yes
terday around 12 cents. There was some scat
tered short covering, also buying by
brokers identified with the bulls. Liverpool was
an early buyer. Wires from New Orleans state
that there is a better demand but holders
are firm.

“OUR BANK” WA-NTS *
TO MOVE TO ATLANTA
(Special Dispatch to The Journal.)
GREENSBORO, Ga., Feb. 27—"Our
Bank,’’ of Union Point, Ga., which is
only a little over a year old, has made
application to amend their state bank
charter so as to movte their place of
business to Atlanta, Ga. Nq reason
lor the change is given in the publish
ed application for the amendment.
It is the only bank in the .state ivnleh
ha? such a unique title, and it is uri
ders to-. d it has enjoyed splendid pat
ronage since Us establishment, p. F.

tor. One can not be too careful about the starting of litf.>« chickens after
they have received a good hatch.
No one can successfully operate an incubator or raise little chickens
unless they are carefully looked after. This work must b® done promptly
and correctly. A little neglect one day will upset or lose your entire ef
forts, and unless one can make up their minds to look after properly and
care for the little details connected with operating incubators and brood
ers they had better continue to use the hens. But, with artificial incuba
tors and brooders it is the only method by which large quantities of
chickens can be hatched and raised out of season at a time when they
will bring you the most money, and by the use of incubators and brooders
a reasonable supply of poultry can always be had. They are almost a
necessity nowadays wi.th every poultry man and most of them would not
attempt the poultry business if they were deprived of t^eir incubators
and brooders. Oh the other hand they are very often abused and often
fall in the hands of people who do not realize or appreciate their use and
treat them as they shduld be.
One of the greatest things connected with artificial incubation and
brooding is to keep insects out of your flocks. With the use of incubators
and brooders there is no excuse for anyone having lice or mites to contend
with, and they are one of the greatest drawbacks the Southern poultryman
^has to contend with.
A great many people are now operating large hatcheries and when a
person is not so situated that they can do their own hatching it is far
better to have their eggs hatched at a commercial hatchery (which can
usually be done at a reasonable price), and this can be done at much less
cost than a person can own and operate their own machines for. Many
large hatcheries over the United States aie now shipping day old chicks
instead of eggs, and it is surprising what an immense amount of business
is being done in this line nbw when only a few years ago such was not
thought ef. The Egyptian method of hatching eggs has bedn carried on in
this way for many years and these methods are now being largely prac
ticed in California and in many other sections of America.
If it were not for these rapid strides being made in the poultry busi
ness it would be utterly impossible to supp’y the nation with the number
of fowls and eggs that are how required.
There is much yet to he learned about the methods of artificial incuba
tion, and five to ten rears from now
will see a big improvement over, the
methods that are now being prac
ticed. _
Yours very truly,

Belton, S. C.
I want some reliable information as
to the value of green bone as an egg
food, and also as to the make and
size bone cutter to, use. I have been
handling S. C. Rhode Istland Reds
for three or four years, usually keep
. from 50 to 150, but am going to en
large to from four to six hundred
hens.** Can get plenty of cooked bone '
given to me from a restaurant with
fairly nice amount of beef and gristle
with it. Can get green bone free or
at 2 cents per pound from the mar
kets. I am writing to you because I
want first hand practical alvice. Do
you use a hand or power machine? I
expect to buy a small gasoline engine
to pump with, y Thanking you in ad
vance for advice, I am A. N. C.
ANSWER.
Green bone is a splendid egg pro
ducer, especially where you can get It
fresh. The bones, vegetables, blood,
etc., are also good to mix with bran
for your chickens. The Webster &
Hanna or the Humphrey’s bone cut
ters are both good, but it is hard work
to grind themes in them unless you
have plenty power. Do not use any
fir» lock stitch wl. pews Anything; ahoei,
I harness, bugpy tops, etc, Sells like wildfire. Low price.
