Reports of damage in the early sections of Texas were balanced by telegrams from other parts of the belt to the effeet that the dry weather was allowing crop work to go ahead again. It is believed that any further rally would bring out welling from Wall street operators as the speculative interests are against the market. R. H. ROUNTREE & CO.’S COTTON LETTER NEW* YORK, March 17.—July cotton sold to day at noon at exactly the same figure as on Friday of last week. That is about the whole history of these six days. Declines were fol lowed by recoveries and then advances by reces sions. Alter muny days of labor, a mouse results. Yet, operators continue enthusiastic for or against the market in spite of months of un changed prices. Some are convinced prices are about to advance in a most sensational manner. Others feel that It only needs a few days’ sunshine to start a break. But the con servative ones fully believe that there is enough cotton in the world to supply all needs with out being a weight of importance until more is known of the next crop. In other words, the Inspiration, they think, must come from the new, and not the old crop. This Is sustained by the figures this week. Supylies did not lose any more, practically, than last year, although a few weks ago 200.000 bales were lost in a wek lver last year. As long as this ratio is maintained, spinners are not likely to grow nervous over the future. All now depends pon the weafter in April and May. A wet April and May jvold advance prices a cent or more. To change the cottin situation, something must happen to the next crop. March continues strong, with daily short covering.
