Secretary of State Declares
Irish Are Responsible for
Ending Hereditary Rule
WASHINGTON March 15.—
Home rule in Ireland within two
years was the prediction tonight
of William J. Brown, secretary of
state, in an address at a St. Pat
rick’s day banquet tonight, given
by Irish Americans. Mr, Bryan
based his prediction upon the fact
that In that time the Irish home
rule bill again would be before
the English parliament and that
the house of commons, being con
trolled by the Irish members, it
again would be passed by that
body and would not require the
concurrence by the house of
lords.
In his introductory remarks
Mr. Bryan paid a tribute to the
Irish character, which he declar
ed was responsible for the great
fight being waged for home 'rule
and thus bringing about the be
ginning of the end of hereditary
rule.
“The degradation of the house
of lords,” said Secretary Bryan,
“is due to its opposition to the
home rule bill, which brought
about an amendment to the Eng
lish constitution thus making the
concurrence of the house of lords
unnecessary after a bill has pass
ed the house of commons a second
time. The Irish can point to this
as one of the greatest achieve
ments in history, having brought
to a virtual end hereditary rule
in the British empire. Within two
years the Irish all over the world
can celebrate the freedom of Ire
land.”
Referring briefly to the change
of administration in the I United
States, the secretary said the gov
ernment of a great country had
been transferred from one party
to another of diametrically op
posite views “without a ripple,
without a protest and without a
murmur.”
Every Thiery Organ is
Warranted Against any
Defect in either Material
or Workmanship.

Dear Sir: Just received your statement and find
it correct, so enclose money order for the balance of

nineteen months and am perfectly satisfied with it.
During that entire time, I have seen other organs

than your price and they cannot begin to come up
to yours. Yours truly,

Mr. J. B. Thiery Earner, Tennessee
Dear Sir: Enclosed find money order for first

that we are mighty well pleased with the organ in
every respect and wish to thank you for the honest
way I think you are doing business. The first pay

Dr, Grimm Makes Re

WASHINGTON, March 15.—
Pellagra is more prevalent than
is ordinarily supposed even by
physicians practicing in pella
grous communities, declares As
sistant Surgeon R. M. Grimm, of
the United States public health
service, in a report on the results
of an investigation In several
southern states. Because of its
widespread existence in certain
districts, he urges a sweeping In
quiry to ascertain the cause of
the puzzling disease.
Dr. Grimm found more cases
among whites than among ne
groes. Women of both races seem
ed to be more susceptible than
men. The death rate was high
est among negroes. More cases,
he said, occurred under conditions
of poverty than of comfort and
more under conditions of comfort
than affluance. The‘rural districts
seemed less affected than small
towns and villages.
The surgeon declared there was
a possibility that some insect
played a part in the dissemination
of the disease.

The plan is to engage some great hall
