Seventy-eight hens out of the seven hundred have not laid an egg. A few contestants have made the mistake of sending old hens, others did not have their stock mature enough. Where feed of all kinds is kept before the hens, they seem to be doing best and laying the greatest number of eggs. The pen m which the hens feed themselves from hoppers and in which feed of various kinds are kept before them are 42 eggs in the lead of their next competitor, the pen fed according to the Canadian method of feeding. So far, this experi ment indicates that uens will lay more eggs in the wimer months where they are hopper fed, or fed from an automatic feeder than where they are hand fed. The results for the summer months may prove the oppo site to be true for hot weather. Yours very truly, The Kind You Have Always Bought. “["HIS is the caution applied to the public announcement of Castoria that has been manufactured under the supervision of Chas. H. Fletcher for over 30 years—the genuine Castoria. We respectfully call the attention of fathers and mothers when purchasing Castoria to see that the wrapper bears his signature in : black. When the wrapper is removed the same signature appears on both sides of the bottle in red. Parents who have used Castoria for their little ones in the past years need no warning against counterfeits and imitations, hut our present duty is to call the attention of the younger generation to tie great danger of intro- i duemg into their families spurious medicines. It is to be regretted that there are people who are now engaged in the nefarious business of putting up and selling all sorts of substitutes, or what should more properly be termed conterfeits, for medicinal preparations not only" for adults, but worse yet, for children’s medicines. It therefore devolves on the mother X to scrutinize closely what she gives her child. Adults can do that for themselves 1 but the child has to rely on the mother’s watchfulness. ~ ALCOHOL 3 PER CENT. : AVegetable PreparalionforAs- similatuig the FoodandRcgula Infants/Children Letters from Prominent Druggists addressed to Chas. Seitz, M _ 70 Chicago NEW QUARANTINE LAW BENEFIT TO FARMERS WASHINGTON, March 16.—Increas- ed activity in the work of eradicating- the cattle tick may be expected to fol low the revision of the quarantine reg ulations just announced by the United States department of agriculture. This is the opinion expressed today by Pres ident Finley, of the Southern railway company, who said: “The provision that cattle may be shipped from the quarantined area unde r the certificate of an Inspector of the Bureau of Animal Industry that they have been dipped twice with an interval of from five to.ten days, in an arsenical solution or otherwise treated in a manner satisfactory to the secre tary of agriculture and under the su pervision of an inspector and that they are ’free from infection, will greatly en courage farmers to get the ticks out of their herds. It will enable the in dividual farmer to benefit from his work before the locality in which he lives is entirely released from quaran tine. The revised regulations indicate a desire of the department of agricul ture to remove restrictions on the movement of cattle ’from the quaran tined. area so far a*s it may safely b^ done. “Simultaneously with the issuance of the more liberal regula*?ons, the de partment has revised the quarantine line, releasing large areas in the re gions where systematic work against the tick has been carried on, and mak ing the total area released since 1905 more than 387,000 square miles. Work against the tick is especially active in Mississippi where at the close of the year, 1912, there were 2,1 $1 dipping vats in operation. In one county in this state there were 185 vats. Similar ac tivity throughout the entire quarantin ed area would make the complete de struction of the tick only the matter of a very few years.” ^hen you answer this announcement, as I am going to mail you a brand new pai,r of my wonderful “Perfect Vision^ glasses (known in the spec tacle business as “lenses”) absolutely free of charge as an advertisement.
