HOWARD k C0.„ ' 106 Rese Su, Palmy rj, Fa, • NEW ORLEANS COTTON (By Associated Press.) NEW ORLEANS, March 20.—Cotton futures opened steady at a decline of 1 to 3 points. The census bureau’s final report of the season on cotton ginning of 14,070,000 bales, including linters, just about met the average expectation and did not result in any special trading. It appeared to be large enough to satisfy most shorts, who figured out a commercial crop of 14,250,000 bales from it. The weather map was unfavorable, too much rain being snown over the cotton belt, while more was promised in the forecast. This held the market steady. At the end of the first half hour of business prices were 2 to 4 points down. The market became dull with a pronounced holiday feeling around the middle of the inorn- iug and prices sagged off under the inactivity. A moderate amount of selling was based on the census figures showing average weight of bales this last season of 507.8 pbunds, against 504.4 a year ago, but offerings were fairiy absorbed by the demand from shorts who want ed to cover over the‘holidays.
