NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 10.—Liverpool is steadier than expected. Government securities show a good advance, reflecting more confi dence in politics. Ai bough thy opening was higher,’ tbe support here was restricted at the start owing to the timidity caused by Satur day’s unexpectedly sharp break, and the mar ket soon dropped 13 points on the further liqui dation <j1 smaller accounts. • However, strong parties in the trade t 0,; 'i* the contracts freely on the decline, which caused steadiness. It is being generally agreed that this se back in the market was condl • loned by technical facts and financial ideas and developments in con nection with pending politic*. Technical con ditions have now somewhat Improved, but talk | of tigb. finances is still current and the mar kets are watching spot news. | The official weight statement giving the aver- ■ age weight per bale fo? the belt at tho end of the firs’ two months of the season as 524.78, ! against 52.962 last yea, is considered strong j proof In favor of small crop argument. All ; important states show lighter weight than last year in spite of the rainy weather. Spot peo- ile generally find that the in erior la resist- ng the decline, offerings, if anything, are reduced and not on the level of decline in contracts. These fairs are build ing for this city a great progres- ' 's cost the citi zens of Macon hut very little to take up this fair and for the nec essary small amount as a guaran tee that the premiums and oth.rn expenses connected with the fair would he paid. There Is no doubt in my mind but that the three big hotels that have recently been built in Macon would have never been put there had it not been for the state fair being located there permanently. They are now crowd ed to their utmost capacity and there is. room now in Macon with plenty patronage for three more one-half-million-dollav hotels ard they will sooner or later be built. The greatest thing that ever happened for Atlanta and the , ‘ „ first thing that put Atlanta on a. boom w’as the Cotton States exposition, and the annual shows tha,t were conducted there year after year following this great show did more to bring Atlanta before the eyes of the public and interest east ern capital into this great city than any work that was ever done. This fact cannot be disputed, and it is doing the same thing tor every other section of country The state fair of Texas held at Dallas every year has done more for that town than any other one thing, and something like $50 ooo to $l(*o.000 is realized and spent annually every year on the Dallas fair, either for permanent improvements or for increase premiums, and to see 100,000 people per day enter the fair grounds at Dallas during fair week and to keep this thing up for ten days j’ou can readily see bow much outside money this number of neopie bring to Dallas every 5 r ear. And. in return for this money that the country people spend they get great educational advantages from the great exhibits at this fair and see what tbe outside world is doing. It is gradually stimulating and educating the younger generation to know what the possihi'lties of our country are. When run on business principles like the Dallas fair, the Tennessee state fair, the Georgia state fair and many others the money and time expended in this line of work is doing something for the country that is not onlv badly needed but is helping to improve every section that these exhibitions are held in to a greater extent than any work that can possibly be done- The money reouired to ac- comnlish these things is probably bringing a greater revenue to each section that is conducting them than ten to twenty times the amount invested in any other way can possib’y do. Every Georgian who can possibly do so should see the Tennes-, see state fair at Knoxville this week. The money that they will spend will be a big investment for them and will come back .ten fold. And, every citizen of this state should bv all means visit 'our State Pair at Macon and spend several davs there, as much can be learned that is absolutely necessary and essential through life. Competition is going to be so strong now that every farmer must wake up and open their eyes and see the possibilities that are here for us if we expect to keep in the front ranks and realize the per cent of profit that we should have from our efforts and labor. By all means once a year visit some state fair, take your family and a’so all of your hired men. It will help you in many ways that you do not think of if you will only studv the exhibits and try to ’earn something from them in the way that they a.re intended to teach. Many a man has been so stimu lated by a visit to a fair that it has made him successful in his farm ing operations and made thousands of dollars for him. aud many a child has been stimulated to do things that they have seen others do and make an easy do’lar that they would have never known how had they not seen these public exhibitions. No time or money that you can stiend will be worth more to you if you will only make up your mind to study the exhibits and learn y from them the lessons that they are \j> , [A intended to teach. 7 HA1LWAV mail dark examinations everywhere soon. $75 month.
