The undertone was steady because of the reports concerning ginning and picking, but tbe bulls made no attempt to force values to higher levels, A low pressure urea ou the Pacific coast caused the idea that rain might >e headed for the cotton belt but it did not stimulate buying. The market held steady mound the highest levels of the morning for seme time but finally fell of a few points, under realizing by scalping »ougs. NEW YORK COFFEE MARKET I N many sections of Georgia, if a community club were formed that would co-operate and get together, it would be sur prising what could be accom plished from such work. For in stance, in every l-.ucKly settled community people could club to gether and buy in greater quanti ties and at much iess price differ ent things that they need and utilize on the farm than can be bought by single individuals. On the other hand, much progress can be made in live stock, poultry and the buying of good seed by people getting together and or dering in a large lot just what they want. I know of several parties who have Joined ‘together and made up money sufficient to buy a good horse, a good bull and a good hog in several communi ties, and the benefits they have derived from this work are un told. | I have in mind especially three different communities where sev eral have clubbed together and bought bulls at a cost of something like $100 each, and in all three of these communities I know to my knowledge of between fifty and a hundred splendid heifer calves that have been produced from these anima's at practically no cost in com parison to the increased value of the animals. For instance, in one place especially these fifty heifers that have come from one animal will easily sell for $25 more apiece than if they had come from the ordinary scrub cattle that are in this community. This one cross of thorougn- bred blood onto the native cattle for one year’s work has been worth say. at $20 each, in fifty animals, $1 000, at a cost of $100 for the male fyhich increased these values. These males have been used three years and have practical’y repeated this incrase every year, and will be good for several years more. Two of these parties have bought again even better males, which will make an additional increase.. Considering the small amount of money necessary to obtain such great advantages, it is surprising that more people do not take advantage of these dpportunities. It is surprising how r much increased value a $100 male can put 1n a community in a few vears’ time, and this year, when people are in a pos’tion to do so. they should get together and not only organize and buy live stock, but thev should buv their farming implements, seed and fertilizer the same way. Ten dol'ars to $25 chipped in from each individual does not make it bard on any one person. They soon get their money back or good interest on the investment, and it is surpris ing how much good can he derived from co-operating in these lines. No one who has not studied these conditions or seen the benefits de rived from them can appreciate what they are worth to a community. In the marketing of manv products and in the buying of same many advantages are offered, and by having one live, wide-awake, progressive man in a community to look after the detail work (even if he has to be paid a small salary) is an asset or a value to a community that but few people realize. It is surprising wt>at a few hundred dollars, a small amount from each individual, will do for any community and when we see on every hand the necessity of improvement of our live stock and poultrv breeding in this resneri we should by all means get busy ana take advantage of the opportunities offered us in this line. The sale of one bale of cotton will buy or place in a community an animal of untold value This same small amount of money will bring to a community a snlendid lot of fowls or several good pigs that, in time to come will be worth thousands of dollars if properly taken care of. The samo thing can be said of farm implements, and this year, while hundreds of farmers can afford to do so. it wou’d be a wise tiling for each to set aside or give to his wife and children the value of one bale of cotton, to be invested in a good cow, a few good chickens or some good pigs. If thev are properly' taken care of, during some year vrhen the cotton crop is short you will have installed on tbe place the offspring or product of these animals that can be converted into many times what the original investment called for, and will usually be a great heln at a time when you least expect it. For $10 any community can club together and buy five good cock erels of any thoroughbred variety to cross onto their native hens or, for $15. a good pen of thoroughbred fowls, four hens and one rooster. Five or ten settings of e»gs can be bought in one order and shinned at one express rate, and divided up in this community. For $50 three good pigs or a good brood sow can be had. and for $75 to $100 a good cow or a good thoroughbred bull can be placed in any community. And the value to be derived from the purchases in years to come is untold. There are but few who realize how much these small invest ments are woftjr to a section: and, of a’l the ymars that this work should be taken up and carried out. this is one of the seasons In time of plenty prepare for such things. The day is coming when out country will be looked ufton as one of the greatest on the globe, and the sooner we can diversify our crons and co-operate in buying and selling the better off we will be. I have seen the good effects m many instances this line of work has done for different communities, and if it has been good for one section it surely is for others. And, by organ izing and getting these things in working order now, while we are in a posi+ion to do so, we con'd save thousands of dollars to our country, and bring happiness and satisfaction to many sections where but litt'e interest of this kind has heretofore been demonstrated.
