Easy to Ownan Eng ine Now
One of the most notable things in
the gasoline engine business is the
New Sales plan adopted by Ed. H.
Witte, of the Witte Iron Works Com
pany, 2650 Oakland avenue, Kansas
City, Mo. He now sells Direct from
Factory to User, and has arranged for
easy payments, at no advance over
regular prices. The plan is devised so
a WITTE engine can earn its own
cost while the user is paying for it.
For 27 years Mr. Witte has done noth
ing but build WITTE engines. His
catalogs and circulars, together with
the prices he makes, show he is a
master at his business. The Witte
factory is one of three of the first
gasoline engine factories in America,
and is now the oldest and largest ex
clusive engine business, selling only
direct to the user. Mr. Witte has iust

orought out a very handsome large
sized circular in 3-color printing, the
title of which is “Own Your Hired
Hand—It’s Cheaper Than Hiring.”
The text matter with the rich illust.ra-
cions shows in a convincing manner
hat a WITTE engine, using either
kerosene, gasoline, gas, naphtha or
distillate, is a competent “hand” suit
able for any work that ban be har
nessed to a belt. The striking part of
this showing is the really low prices
that can be made on all sizes of these
engines, from 1 1-2 to 40 horse power,
stationary, portable, skidded or sawrig
styles. These factory prices mean a
saving to purchasers of anywhere
from $25.00 to $350.00, according to the
size and style of engine selected—a 6-
horse power stationary engine, for in
stance selling at $99.35 for the com
plete outfit, all ready to run as soon as
unloaded at destination. The 60 days’
free trial plan is also explained, in con
nection with the liberal 5-year guaran
ty, which Mr. Witte makes very definite
and broad. Your name and address,
sent to Mr. Witte at his address as
given above, will bring to you one of
these new circulars free, together with
his Big Fine Catalog and Easy Payment
Sales Plan.—(Advt.)

the crop report of a Now Orleans authority plac
ing the yield at 13,060,000 excluding hnters.
Cables were better than due and the local
opening was firm at 0 to 14 points higher.
Realizing caused some Irregularity right after
the call but the undertone was firm and active
months sold 15 to 10 net higher before the end
of the first hour on covering and renewed bull
support. Private cables reported little active
offering in Liverpool. Houses with southern
connections were buyers.
Private returns indicating that 11,760,000
bale* had been ginned to December 1 stimu
lated the advance later in the forenoon and
prices sold about 19 to 21 points net higher.
Realizing checked the upward movement around
tliis level and business was less active with
prices a point or two off from the best at
noon.
Trading remained very quiet in the early
afternoon with prices off 5 to 6 points from
the best, but still 13 to 14 points over Sat
urday’s closing prices. The market seemed to
meet good support on the reactions and the
steadiness of spots checked any aggressive bear
sellliug.

NEW ORLEANS COTTON
(By Associated Press.)
NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 1.—Cotton futures
opened steady at an advance of 10 to 11 points
on good cables, unfavorable weather in the
cotton region and a local crop estimate of
13,000,000 bales, exclusive of linters. This esti
mate caused considerable fresh buying for long
account and tbe ring found it difficult to sup
ply the demand There was more of the short
covering that was in evidence last week. The
market had a good undertone in the early
trading and at the end of the first half hour of
business stood 16 to 19 points over Saturday’s
close.
While the market was very dull throughout
the morning the advance of the early trading
held very well and was even slightly increased
on some months. At the highest levels trad
ing months were 19 to 19 points up. Not much
cotton came out on the rise and moderate buy
ing served to preserve the good tone. Gossip

COTTON SEED OIL MARKET.
NEW YORK, Dec. 1.—There was light scat
tered trade in cotton seed oil this morning
with prices generally steady to a shade higher
on buying inspired by the advance in cotton.
There were no signs of a revival in outside
trade however and the crude situation is a
trifle easier if anything. There is talk that
many mills will have to let go their holdings
before the close of the year or shut down.
December oil was off a trifle owing to ten

E. F. Hutton & Co.: We see no reason to

TIMES-DEMOCRAT CROP ESTIMATE
NL’w ORLEANS, Dec. 1.—Times-Democrat
estimates cotton crop at 13,660,000 bales.
Alabama 1,400,000, Arkansas 900,000, Georgia
and Florida 2,500.000, Louisiana 400,000, Mis
sissippi 1,160,000, North Carolina 800,000, Okla ;
homa 800,000, South Carolina 1,400,000, Texas
3,900,000, Tennessee 400,000 ; total 13,600,000.
This approximate relates to actual growth ex
clusive of linters, repacks and similar addi
tions.
Correspondents report that farmers have sold
freely as a rule, though they are inclined to
hold whenever a sharp decline occurs.
A considerable part of the crop is of low
grade and its spinning power will consequently
be distinctly less than the normal.

The South’s Great Poultry Show,
B UT little do the busy city mer
chants, bankers and business
people of Atlanta realize of
how much importance this thing is
to the country, or how essential it is
that this work be kept up. It helps
directly to benefit every man, wom
an and child in the city of Atlanta
to do anything possible they can to
.help increase the poultry output of
America and produce a food that Is
used, by every one in the world. It
is looked upon as a little insignifi
cant thing and there are but few
who stop to give this much thought.
Every merchant in Atlanta should
visit this show and they should buy
and give to their employes at least
one ticket and insist on their visit
ing this show. Every farmer in the
country should for himself and fam
ily and every employed man on his
place and their children give them a
ticket, bear their expenses and bring
tnem to Atlanta during next week
and let them have a double oppor
tunity of seeing two shows in one
week in the city of Atlanta that rep
resent in their work in dollars and
cents the output of the two greatest
industries that America has, namely,, corn and poultry.
These two things, of which we have right here in Georgia the best op
portunities to produce of any state in the world, represent two industries,
one amounting to a billion and a quarter and the other a billion and one-half
industry. The two greatest money crops that are produced in all America
by human hands. These two things mean more to Georgia than her factories,
banks, great warehouses, manufactures, merchants, railroads and all other
things put together. Because, without them the country would be at a stand
still, and with them we keep the wheels of commerce moving. They not only
give employment to thousands, but they feed thousands, and for only 10
cents a person can have the privilege of visiting and seeing these two won
derful exhibitions, most, of tnem produced right here in our owji state. A
life-time’s work and study can be gone over, taken in, and you get the benefit
of how it was done for a few hours’ careful thought and study visiting
and inspecting these two great exhibitions. There is no one thing of so much
importance as the careful study of these two great industries, to know how it
is done and to put yourself in a position to do similar to it.
With plenty corn as Georgia has proven can be grown we can have plen
ty poultry of the best quality in the world, and we could so easily be ship
ping out of Georgia now every day minions of dollars’ worth of poultry ana
eggs, if we would only become interested enough to investigate Jhese things
more carefully and take mbre interest in it than what we have. W It is grad
ually growing on us every day more and more interesting. Nothing we can
pay attention to means more to us, and under no circumstances should any
citizen of Georgia fail to take advantage of the opportunities offered them
next week to even spend the entire week in Atlanta. It is to be hoped that
enough people will become interested especially in this poultry work next
week to organize and get together enough money and talent, push, and en
ergy behind an organization to put on somewhere . in Georgia a
world-wide laying competition that would eventually bring mil
lions of dollars to this state, as it has done for Missouri,
and through this line of educational work in less than three years after it
was done and less th,„n $5,000 would be sufficient money to do ‘it, Georgia
could in a few years have thousands of hens in this country that would be
producing more than than 200 eggs per a n instead of fifty to seventy-five
eggs per hen which probably three-fourths of the hens in Georgia are now
doing at their best. There is no telling what will eventually come forth from
the work of this poultry association and this corn show. I have often thought
rbut what a great thing it has been that both should be conducted during the
same week in this great city, and the work that should eventually come from
this incident. It is sure to lead up to something more wonderful than many
at this present time realize could be done. There is no telling eventually
what will be the outcome of these two
shows being conducted in Atlanta t*us
weeK.

QUESTIONS ASKED AND ANSWERED.
QUESTION.
Dear Sir: I have a nice young
cow with her first calf. She has been
milking several months, but her
milk seems strong and has ever
since she came in. I gave her one-
half pound of granulated sugar
twice a day and it seemed to help
her some.
We fed cotton seed meal, hulls
and wheat bran. She has a free
woods range. Do you think she is
diseased in some way? Is there
some place I could send a specimen
of her blood to have it analyzed?
Her flow of milk has been very
limited, though she is of good Jer
sey stock and should be a fine cow.
I have stopped milking her, as the
milk was so strong and also has a
very bad odor after standing a few
hours. She will bring another calf
next March. I do not want to carry
her through the winter if she is no
better with her next calf.
Any information you can give
will be greatly appreciated.
Very respectfully,
T. J. E.
ANSWER.
Evidently there is something used
in connection with the milk vessels
or that the cow gets to eat in the
pasture that causes the taste in the
milk. Thoroughly sterilize the milk
vessels and change the pasture, also
change the feed you are giving and
see if the trouble is not remedied.
Instead of cotton seed meal, for
a while use corn meal and wheat
bran, or some of the dairy feeds
that are used for this purpose and
are properly balanced. Of course,
hulls and hay should be fed in ad
dition to this feed. It would be a
good .id^a tq give her one pound of
Epsom salts dissolved in two
quarts of sweetened water. Repeat
in three days. This should cleanse
her system.
You could, of course, send some of
her blood to have it analyzed by the
state chemist of Georgia or Florida,
but I do not think it would b-> neces
sary to do this. With plenty pure
fresh water and clean sound food
and clean milk vessels she should
give you pure sweet milk without
any odor or other objectionable
taste.
Would be glad to hear further
from^ you when you have made
these changes.
