We can’t see how General Gor don got his consent to resign his posi tion as United Slates Senator just at a time when this country is just upon the eve of the most important politics battle ever before fought in the histo ry of our government. One which involves the very existence and perpe-. tnity nf our free, republican institu tions. It occuis to us that any one of his illu.-tii.iiis> predecessors would have occupied their Senatorial seals with patched trous>n ami thread tiare ! coats, before tin y would have resign ed at such a juncture. Again, we do not think Gcm ral Gordon did right in keeping the purpose of his resigning a secret from the people ot Georgia, and an > then shucking the whole country with its suddenness.
