Trn* recent disruption of the Demo- craiic party nt Atlanta, under the spirit of Joseph R Brown, may ex tend to every part of the democratic organization throughout the State. Indeed, 1 believe that is Brown’s scheme and he rarely fails in the exe- cuiiou of his plans. The fracture of the parly on the gubernatorial ques tion is but an earnest of the general break up Gov. B. has taken in hand. The history of the Democratic parly is a standing reproach to Joe Brown, ami, if organized and alive, its nomi nees will go to ihe general assembly ami defeat him. In this exigency Brown’s remedy is lo kill the party. It is not the first lime he has kill<‘d his party. In truth he has betrayed every political trust confided lo him. lie was so hot a secessionist that he must needs Commit technical, actual and literal treason by seizing the property ol the United States in the name of his State when that State was etill in the Union. The war had Aaroely begun when he raised an impaHum imperiv oy levying an army of his own, of five thousand men, of which he, as Governor of our State, was comman der in"chief. It took nearly a year to break down this scheme of de. inoializaiion, but when it failed lie continued doting .the whole war to work for counter-revolution ami put every difficulty he could devise in the way of Jefferson Davis and the Con federate Government. The war had not ended before he about faced, and the radical secessionist became tli radical Republican ; and then when the dark days of’67 came upon us, when our slaves, headed by scalawag and carpet bagger, were turned into political masters to keep our section subject and degraded forever, Brown gave his uncommon ability, his Oratt, his heart and his temper, to force ll is bitter cup of humiliation t<> our lips. We drank it to the dregs. He made the Democratic party bitc the dust, lie was rewarded by the Chief Justiceship of the Slate at the bands of lire adventurer whom he had made Governor. From thence under cover of ihe ermine he was en abled to scheme imo bis possession and control the State’s magnificent property, which has made him rieh and created him a railroad magnate of the land. It was at this price he came back to the Democratic parly. The Republican party which he_ de serted not only fell to pieces, but fled from justice. While his political as sociates were flying from criminal warrants, their distinguished chief, stile, prosperous and happy, sat cn- itroncd a railroad king. If his em brace of the Republican party mraot their ruin whenever the price was of fered to their chief, his accession to the Democracy meant no less to it, when the power and occasion should come to Joseph 12. Hi own. That time came,{and our parly is in ruing. Wiiat Joe Brown and Victor New- oomb intend to do witli us I do not know. Brown, ten year's ago, got its railroad from bis State, and now it appears intends to tako the S.ate for his railroad. A strange revolu tion is upon us. Railroad combina tions are the power which arc hence forth to disrupt parties and rnlo the commonwealth. Railroad Presidents are made Senators, and United Slates Senators are translated into the gen eral counsel of Mr. Victor Newcomb, of Kentucky, the famous railroad manipulator of the day. This young Napoleon having possessed himself of the country stretching from the Gull to tlie Ohio and from the Tennessee to the Mississippi, desires lo lay hold of Georgia, and, like Sherman, make his march to the sea. To this end Brown is made his coadjutor, Gordon his man Friday, Colquitt his tool, ami the Democratic parly his first victim. With the fall of this party our State will be turned over to the spoiler. AU.this is going on Ireloreour eyes, and, from Muscdgee excepted, not a cry of distress is rni-ed. The worst feature in the dark picture is ll at the press have joine d the conspiracy. That bulwark ot our liberty is now abusing the pubjic ear, and reiterating the lie that, not Joe Brown and his caucus, but that the minority of the Conven tion, in the exorcise of their organic right, have broken our party in twain; ill this, too, in the name ol the p- o- ple. REMEMBER THE ACE, » JAMES O’FARUELL, Broad Street. ‘‘The people, oh, the pcoj»!e, that dwell up in the steeple, all alone, And feel n glory in so roUiii? on tlic human heart a stone-!” I saw our party was gone when I heard Gordon defame it, by stating that those who voted lor Grecly in ’72 went to Brown in ’68. I saw the manner of its destruction when I heard Brown deciding upon the two-thirds rule for the convention ami the major ity rule for the caucus. These two opposite courses ol actiou—both or dered by the people, says Joe Brown —meant and could result only in what was effected, an adjournment without a nomiimlKnv. The curtain has fallen on the first act of the drama. It has given us no a ight into the object the plotters de sign ; certain it is that it is something beyond J. B.’s return to the United Stales Senate. There is but one way lo redeem our party and Slate, and that is by the election to the executive sent of the Hon. Thomas M. Norwood. The preliminary trial of J oha T Atkins tor the killing of James M Nuseworthy, at Columbus, resulted in his committal tor murder. GOOD SOCIETY. Matty parents who have sons and daughters growing up are anxious for them to get iuto good society. This is an honorable anxiety. If it inter prels good society alter some lofty fashion. Parents, your daughter is in good •oeL-ly when she is with girls who ate sweet and pure and true-hearted who are not vain or frivolous, who think of something besides dress or flirting or marriage; between wlioui and their pa ents there io confidence ; who are useful as well as ornamental in the house, who cultivate their mil ds, and train their hands to skill ful workmanship. If society of this sort is not to he had, then none at all is preferable to a worthless article. See to it that you press this r n your children, and above all, that you do not encourage them to think that good society is a matter of fine clothes, or wealth, or boasting to somebody. As you value your child’s soul, guard tier against these misera- b e counterfoils; and impress upon Iter that intelligence, and simplicity and modesty, and goodness, are the only legal coiu. The some rnie holds for boys as well as for girls. Yon would have these enter into good society. Do not im agine that you have accomplished it when you have got them iu with a set of boys whose |»renta are wealthier than you, who dress better t an your boys can afl'ord to dress, aud|who pride themselves upon their social jtositicn. Gootl society for a boy is society of boys who are honest and straightfor ward, who have no bad habits, who are earnest and ambitious. Tluy are not in a hurry to be men. yp They are not arobilit us for the com pany of shallow, heartless women, old enough to be their mothers, and are not envious of their friends who fancy there is something ‘grand in dulling the edge of their heart’s hojie u|»on such jaded favorites. There is nothing sadder than to sao either young men or women priding themselves upon the society which they enjoy, when verily it is a Dead Sea apple that will choke thtrn.in the dust, when they need some generous, juicy fruit to cool their lips and stav the hunger of their sods.—Christian Register THE TRUE WIFE. Oftentimes I have seen a tall ship glide by against the tide, as if drawn by an invisible tow fine with a huns dred strong arms pulling it. Her sails unfurled, her streamers drooping, she had neither side-wheel uor stern- wheel ; still she moved on, stately, In ectene triumph, as with her own life. But I knew that on the other side of the ship, hidden beneath the groat -bulk that swarm so majestically, there was a little toilsome steam tug^ with i heart of fire and arms of iron, that was tugging it bravely on; and I knew that if the little steam tug untwined her arms and left the ship, it would wallow and roll away, and drift hither and thither, amhgo off with the effluent tide no man knows where; and so I have known more than one genius high-decked, full-freighted, wide-sailed,gay-pennoned, who,but for the bare toiling arm and drave warm heart of the faithful liulu wife that nestled c’ose to him so that no wind or waves could part them, would have gone down with the stream and been heard of no more.— O.
