A called meeting of the city council
was held Tuesday night. The mayor
and all the aldermen were present.
The mayor stated that the object of
the meeting was to take action on a
petition received from a large number

drumming. The questiftn was dis

George D. Thomas, Esq., who repre

following ordinance, introduced by

called a vision, which told her that she
was going to die the next Sunday at
twelve o’clock. So firmly was this
hh a impressed on her mind and that
of her parents, that they told the
grievous tidings to all their friends,
hod there was a general lamentation
in their circle.
Sunday morning a large concourse
of the friends of the family assembled
to witness her expiring struggles and
give her all that sympathy and love
could give in her dissolution. She
sank steadily, growing weaker and
weaker, until the clock struck twelve,
when—she did not die, but was so re
joiced to find herself alive despite the
vision, that she immediately rallied,
and now bids fair to get well.

On- motion of alderman Latnpkin,
the question of public schools, which
was laid on the table at a previous
meeting, was taken up, and an or
dinance was proposed for adoption
consisting of three sections. The
first appropriated §100,000 ior the
extension of the North-eastern Rail-,
road ; the second appropriated §30,s
000 for water-works ; and the third
§5,000 for the support and mainten
ance of a system of public schools,
under an act of the legislature.
Alderman Thomas said lie favored
portions of the resolutions, but not
oilier portions, and moved that each
appropriation be voted on separately.
This was lost, and the previous quests
ion voted on; yeas—Lampkiu, Jacobs
and Hampton ; nays—Thomas,
