Ilurglury.
The store of Mr. Eberhart was hur-
glarized on the night of 29th. The
]»Avlics bor d through the door and
effecting an entrance stole a consid
erable amount of heavy provisions of
all kinds ; nlso rifled the show-case.
No clue has yet been found as to the
identity of the burglars. The case is
iir the hands ot the police. This is the
second burglary in the course of a
month, and the third time Mr. Eher-
hart’s store has been robbed. Enough
of a thing is enough, too much ceases
to he amusing.

K*ge and sqe-ium different is its ap
pearance from what it was before Gen.
Win. M. Browne took hold of it.
Gen. Browne is conductiug it as a
model farm, in bis capacity of proles- ,
sor of agriculture and horticulture,
Tbe barren si retch of yard in front of
the college has been, to some extent,
laid off in beds, and a fine collection
of flowers is there. < Several bonana
plants—one or two with fruit—are
growing—or were belore the frost
compelled them to be taken inside—
as if in their native clime. Rare ex
otics and beaatifnl indigenous flowers
and" shrubs, abound on all sides
Some are outside, adorning the plats;
others are in the piazzas in pots; but
all combine to convert wliat was once
a veritable bleak bouse, into a place
of beauty.
Not only is the ornamental attend
ed to, but the practical is by no means
neglected. There is a field of six
acres belonging to tbe farm, which
had lain ' ut as a bermuda-grass com-
tniJn, unfenced for a score of years or
more. This year it has been planted
in cotton. At the time we were there,
five Bales of cotton bad been gathered
Jrom it, and two more were expected.
This was done,mot by inordinate
manuring and forued growth, as is
often the case but bv thorough dili
gent cultivation. k
The plan which. Gen. Browne
adopts in teaching agriculture and
carried to an extreme, they both have
in a moderate state, a beneficial influ
ence upon the country, they match
each other. But the only safely to
the government is ip keeping tlieny
equally balanced. If one ontbalances

circus in the management of immense
crowds is one of the most notable fea-

dent occurred in tbe street parade. A
small Athenian African who person-

the camels, was thrown as neatly as if
he bad been on a mule.
Wc saw one smnll child accompan

Old John Robinson sustained him

In spile of many predictions by,
croakers that the electric light would
not put in appearance, its presence
was manifest even to a man asleep at

This is the issue of the election—
nothing more, nothing less. A re
publican victory has a tendency to
ward momrehy. *
We do not believe that tendency
will ever find a consummation.
Tbe people may bo led astray by
corrupt and ambitious leaders on mi
nor questions, but we have an abiding
faith that they can never be forced
into the madness of tearing the coro
net from their own sovereign brows,
to place it upon the head of a king.
There is notliing in the history or tra
ditions of the people who made up
these States that would tolerate a
monarchy. We scout the idea.
