SOUTHERN FEDERAL UNION.
iilledgeYille, Oa.
“Xiai r*.r B.ai.ru.”
The first piece of Continental money
coined in this country, bore the terse but
simple mo»to “Muttl your buxine.m”—and if
the people of the different sections of this
country had followed its advice, the best
girernment ever devised by man, would
n it be on the verge of destruction. It is
mt to be denied that we of the North, (to
say nothing ot oilier sections.) have disre
garded the wholesome advice on the old
copper. It is none of onr business, that
oilier States of this Union tolerate domes
tic slavery. It is not our business to re
buke them for it—-for we once did the
same. It is none of our business, that
they regard the institution with favor, or
disfavor. We are not responsible tor it,
in a moral, ot a political sense. If it is a
mistaken notion, we are not the sufferers;
and if we were sensible and discreet, we
should “mind our own business,” and
leave it to those who alone are interested
in its existence. It is no hindrance *o our
prosperity’, at least—-but meddling with it,
has at last brought a tornado upon us,
which materially’ interferes with “wr
business!” We have now got consider
ably more on our hands than we can attend
to—-even if it is not too late to “mind our
own business”—-having none to “mind.”
Let ns get back to the philosophy of the
copper motto ns fast as wc can. Let a
new emission be coined as soon as possible
that every man, woman and child, may
have one to wear as a monitor, and a re
minder to common sense. Let one be
nailed to the desk of every abolition
preacher in the land. Let solemn presen
tations of them be made to all dyspeptics
who misiako indigestion for Christian phi
lanthrope, with the hope that they will
cease from mischief anil “mind their own
business.”— Ncic Harm Register.

Quite recently while walking in the gar
den with the Hen. ,1. \\ . Fairfield, ot N,
Y., he called my attention to the small
stakes which supported the raspberry
canes. The end in the ground, as well as
the part above, was as sound and bright as
i£lately made, but he informed me that
thev had been in constant use twelve
years. Said I of course they are kyani-
zed?” ‘’Yes,” he replied, “and the pro
cess is so simple and ciicap that it de
serves to be universally known, and it is
simply this: one pound of blue vitro! to
twenty quarts of water. Dissolve the
vitrol with boiling water, and then add the
remainder.
The end of the stick is then dropped in
the solution, and left to stand four or five
days; for the shingles three days will an
swer, and for posts six inches square, ten
days. Care is to be taken that the satu
ration takes place in a metal vessel or keyed
box, for the reason that any barrel will be
shrunk by the operation, so as to leak. In
stead of expanding an old cask as other
liquids do, this shrinks them. Chloride of
zinc. I am told, will answer the same pur
pose, put the blue vitrol, is, or was former
ly very cheap, viz: three to six cents per
pound.”
Mr. Fairchild informed me that the
French government are pursuing a similar
process with every timber used in ship
building, and that they have a way of forc
ing it into the trees in the forest as soon as
cut, ejecting the sap and kyanizing it on
the spot. 1 have not experimented with
it, but Mr. Fairtieid’s success seemed to be
complete.
The process is so simple and cheap as to
be within the convenience of every fanner
and gardner, even, and 1 therefore thought
it so valuable as to warrant a special notice
of it. It. G. Parade.

OppoNfid to War.
The Democratic press throughout the
country are now nearly all united in their
opposition to war upon the seceded States
in any form, whether disguised under the
name of‘protecting the public property,’
“collecting tiie revenue,” or “retaking the
forts.” The following front the New York
News is good, wholesome talk:—
“In all the elements of national pros
perity, the Southern Confederacy will be
litle, if in any respect inferior to tlie
Northern. Its population inav be smaller
but it can probably furnish the material
for armies and military service to as great
an extent as its rival. VYe turn, however,
with horror and disgust from the contem
plation of war. Neither ot the two sec
tions can afford to engage iu this wicked,
expensive and utterly futile conflict. To
restore the Union by such a process is ab
surd—war will destroy the last hope of its
restoration. Far better that we acquiesce
in the separation, waive the infonnalitie.s,
if any, in the mode of its formation, and
become good neighbors, renew our internal
trade and intercourse, adopt a postal sys
tem on terms of reciprocity, and try to
benefit each other as far as possible. Our
separation may then ho productive of good
and mutual benefits, and will bring about
kind feelings and friendship. Why should
we choose the horrors of war, bloody
fields of battle, carnage, the desolation of
families, the burden of debts, stagnation
in business, and universal misery? We
admit that it is hard to give up our proud
Union and powerful country, hut seDera
tion is better than war, especially
such a war—a war between neighbors,
waged along a border as extensive as ours
--a war between kindred people speaking
the same language and so recently united
i i the most intimate alliance.”

rresideucy has been thrown into a state ol
great excitement and discontent by the

what prospect of support awaits the efforts

A compound remedy, in which we have labored to
produce the most effectual alterative that can be
made. 11 is a concentrated extract of Para Sarsa
parilla, So combined with other substances of still
greater alterative power as to afford an effective
nvtidote .or the di- a-=es Sarsaparilla is reputed to
■lire. It is believed that such a remedy is wanted
>y those who suff er from Struniotis complaints, and
that one which will accomplish their cure must
prove of immense service to this large class of our
afflict.d fellow-citizens. IIow completely this com
pound will do it has been proven by experiment on
many the worst eases to be found of the follow
ing complaints: —
SCUOFCLA VXD ScUOFCT.OUS COMPLAINTS, ERUP
TIONS anu Eruptive Diseases, Ulcers, Pimples,
IIlotitii: TV mils, Salt Rheum, Scald Head,
SyrKins and Syphilitic Affections, Mercurial
Disease, Dropsy, Neuralgia or Tic Douloureux,
Dkliuty. Dyspepsia and Indigestion, Erysipe
las, Rose or St. Anth ivy’s Fire, and indeed the
whole class of complaints arising from Impurity
OF THE lii.OOD.
This compound will be found a great promoter
of health, when taken in the spring, to expel the
foul humors which fe ter in tlic blood at that sea
son of the year. I5y the timely expulsion of them
many rankling disorders arc nipped in the bud.
. Multitudes cu.i, by the aid of this remedy, spare
thenwelve- from the endurance of foul eruptions
and ulcer u» sores, through which the system will
strive to lid itself of corruptions, if not assisted to
do this through the natural channels of the body
by an alterative medicine. Cleanse out the vitiated
blood whenever you find its impurities bursting
through th skin in pimples, eruptions, or tores;
eieauw it when you find it is obstructed and slug
gish iu the vein’s; cleanse it w henevor it is foul,
and your feelings will tell you when. Even where
no particular disorder is felt, people enjoy better
health, aod live longer, for cleansing the blood.
Keep the f lood healthy, and all is well; but with
this pabulum of life disordered, there can be no
lasting health. Sooner or later something must go
wrong, and the great machinery oi life is disordered
cr overthrown.
Sarsaparilla has, and drserves much, the reputa
tion of accomplishing these ends. But the world
has been egreriouslv deceived hy preparations of it,
partly because the drug alone has not ali the virtue
that is claimed for it, but move liecausc many prep
arations, pretending to be concentrated extracts of
it, contain hut little of the virtue of Sarsaparilla, or
any thing else.
During late years the public have been misled
by large bottles, pretending to give a quart of Ex
tract of Sarsaparilla for one dollar. Most of these
have been frauds upon the snk. for they not only
contain little, if any, Sarsaparilla, but often no
curative properties whatever. Hence, bitter and
painful disappointment has followed the use of the
various extracts of Sarsaparilla which flood the
market, until the name itself is justly despised, and
has become synonymous with imposition and cheat.
Still we call this compound Sarsaparilla, and intend
to supply snrh a remedy as shall rescue the name
from the load of obloquy which rests upon it. And
we think we have ground for believing it has vir
tues which arc irresistible Ly tbe ordinary run of
the diseases it is intended to cure. In order to
secure their complete eradication from the system,
the remedy should be judiciously taken according
to directions on the bottle.
