In their admirable arrangements for the attack of the Malakoff, the French counted on two things for success; first, they had ascertained that the Russians were in the habit of relieving the guard oftlie Malakoft at noon, and that a gteaf part of the old guard marched out before the new* one arrived, in order to avoid the loss which * would arise from crowding the work with men ; in the second place, it was determin ed to keep up a most violent vertical fire until the very moment of the assault tints | driving the huss;ans into the bomb—proofs, I and enabling the storming patty to entei ! the work with but little opposition. The very instant the last volley wasj discharged, the storming party of Zouaves i rushed ov-er the thirty paces befoie them] and were in the work before the astonished j Russians knew what had happened. What ever be its origin, it is hereditary iu ti e constitu tion. descending “ from parents to children unto the third and fourth generation indeed, it seems to be the rod of Him who says. “ I will visit the iniquities of tlic fathers upon their children.” Its effects commence by deposition from the blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed tuber cles ; in the glands, swellings; and on the surface, eruptions or sores. This foul corruption, which genders in the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitutions not only suffer front scrofulous complaints, but they have far less power to withstand the attacks of other diseases; con sequently, vast numbers perish 1 y disorders which, although not scrofulous in their nature, are stiil ren dered fatal by this taint in the system. Most of the consumption which decimates the human family has its crig'ii directly .in this scrofulous contamina tion ; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or tire aggravated by the same cause. One quarter of all our people are ■scrofulous; their persons are invaded by this lurking infection, and their health i> undermined by it. To cleanse it from the system we must renovate the blood by an alterative medicine, and invigorate it by healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine we suuplv in AYERS Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla. the most effectual remedy which the medical skill of our times can device for this every where pre vailing and fatal malady. It is combined from tiie most active remcdials that have been discovered for the expurgation of this foul disorder from the lfiood, and the rescue of the system from its destructive consequences. Hence it should be employed for the cure of not only scrofula, but also those other affections which arise from it, such as Eruptive and Skin Diseases, Sr. Anthony’s ITue, Rose, or EaYsiruLAS, Pimpi.es, Pustules, Blotches, Blaixs and Boils, Tumors, Tetter and Salt Rheum, Scald Head, Ringworm, Rheumatism, Syphilitic and Mkxcuhial Diseases, Dropsy, Dyspepsia, Dehility, and, indeed, ai.l Complaints ARISING FROM VlTIATED OR IMPURE BlOOI). The popular belief in “ imparity of the blood ” i- founded m truth, for scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The particular purpose and virtue of this Sarsapa rilla is to purify and regenerate this vital fluid, without which sound health is impossible in con taminated constitutions. Ayer’s Cathartic Pills, FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIO, are so composed that disease within the ranee of their action can rarely withstand or evade them, 'i neir pen etrating properties search, and cleanse, - nd invigorate every portion of the human organi-m, correcting its diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. As a consequence of these properties, the"invalid who is bowed down w ith pain or physical debility is astonished to find his health or energy restored by a remedy at once so simple and inviting. Not only do they cure the every-dav complaints of every body, but also many formidable and dangerous diseases. The agent below uamed is pleased to furnish gratis ray American Almanac, containing certificates of their cures and directions for their use in the follow ing complaints: ('ostirrocss, Ilc'idbunt. lleodochc, arising from disordered stomach. Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral, FOR THE RAPID CURE OF Coughs, Colds, Infltienzn, Hoarseness. Croup, Bronchitis, incipient Consumption, tinti for the relief of Consumptive Patients in ad vanced stages of the disease. So wide is the field of its usefulness and so numerous are the-cases of its cutes, that almost every section of country abounds in persons publicly known, who have been restored from alarming and even desperate dis eases of the lungs by its use. When once tried, its superiority over every other medi-inc of its kind i- too apparent to escape observation, and where its virtues are known, the public no longer hesitate what antidote lo employ for the distressing and dangerous affections of the pulmonary organs that tire incident to our climate. While many inferior remedies thrust upon the community have failed and been discarded, this has gained friends hv every trial, conferred benefits on the afflicted they can never forget, and produced cures too numerous and too remarkable to be forgotten.
