Not satisfied with this unequivoca 1 ex pression, Mr Wheaton pushed his.puint in attempting to substitute another resolution for that offered ,by Mr Spencer, which was negative by i-ghty-one votes!! In the assembly milch warmth, excite ment. anil intemperate language prevailed. The ; opposition Was bold, daring, and abu sive. They attempted to prostrate all rules ami orders of .the house; but a final blow, was given to their cause by a speech from Air Pell, of Dutchess, their principal and most zealous leader. Mr Pell was betray ed into most unwarrantable expressions and indecorous observations. He raised the veil anti showed us these patriotic ‘‘people’s men” in their orginnl colours. He insinu ated that thu opponents to the bill deserved lobe tarried and feathered. He abused Mr Van Buren, Judge Skinner, and pther dis tinguished republicans, to an extent as to arouse the feelings and indignation of the house, and the vote of8t against Wheaton’s- resolutions, showed the feelings and opiti ions of the assembly. The senate is truly a great body; no ex citoment—no violence of debate—not t high word;cttch v membcr did his duty in irntecting the slate and the constitution ike a man—coni and firm. Gen.
