Sm—Complying with instructions received from yon, I hnve carefully inspected all the lands subjected to dry culture ; iftid beg leave to Re port as follows : Upon examining tlie plnntalioo of Mr Ward, I find nothing has been done to improve it since mj last inspection. On viewing ibe plantation of E Jackson I find the banks and trunks in good order, and the sur face of the land as dry as could reasonably be eVpected ut this timei and tho’ some labor lias been bestowed on the ditches, yet many of them are in a bad condition. Tlie manager promised to do ins utmost to better them. On Mr Stiles plantation, subject to Dry Ou). dire, I find ull the banks and trunks in good or der. The ditches are net in as good order as I could wish, yet I find exertions making to bet ter their condition- I see no stagnant water lying in any part of bis plantation, it could not be ex pected that tlie surface of the land should be dry, there having been rain the day previous Tlie canal crossing the Augusta road, continues in good order. The lands of Mr Scarbrough and others are as heretofore reported by your Inspector. Upon examining the plantation of General J. !ackson, now in the occupancy of CaptJ Hunter, 1 find all the banks and trunks in good order, tlie ditches are in tolerable good order, 1 can take no exception to any other part, except the upper part of the maiu canal, whloh is in rather a bad condition. On examining the plantation of J liilbo, Esq. now in tlie occupancy of Mr Falim, I find all the trunks and hanks in good order, and though the ditches have grass and weedtf in them, yet the water is running am) is clean and sweet. I find upon examing the plantation of Thos* Spalding, Esq. all thebanks and trunks appear in fair condition, all the ditches haVS been clean sed since my last inspection, with the exception of Daileys Point which ia as heretofore reported' ity She rift* *s Sales—coutiuu- . ed, • .
