This is a question that lias been fre- buentlv asked; nnd which, wo tiling we can answer, lie is kept at Washington by Messrs. Adams nftd Calhoun, to play part at the . commencement of the next session of Cohgress, and we have not the least doubt that he is at present employed preparing another address or memori- tothe House ofRcpresentatives against the Secretary of the -Treasury. It will he recollected that Messrs. Wc learn from the Baltimore American that the General was landed at Yorktown on the lStli joist, about noon, amidst an immense concourse of gratified spectators. A nutionnl salute was fired on the occasion, nnd the whole scene was one of the most grand and imposing ever witnessed in Virginia. A letter from a gentleman of Baltimore who was present, states thut the General landed at a quarter before two o’clock P. M. in nn eight oared barge, nccompnnied by Chief Justice Marshall and other distin guished characters. He was received by the governor of Virginia and the Council of State. After the General’s reply to the Governor’s lie ascended a superb bar ouche drawn by four elegant grey9 with postillions in full livery—with him were seated the Governor of Virginia, the Chief Justice oftlie United States and the Sec retary of War. In othdV carriages fol lowed the Geuernl’s family, revolutionary officers, and others, and the procession was closed by an immense concourse of of citizens. The whole proceeded to the Gcnerul’s quarters, where he was received by Major Gen. It. B. Taylor and stall’, with n host of officers attached to the va rious Virginia corps. On the 19th there was to he a grand’ review. The number of persons ussem bled at York wns estimated at about six thousand. At Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on Wed uesduy last, a man by the name ofWilliam Kirkwood, drank off nearly three pints of whiskey, which occasioned his death in the course of u few minutes. Professor Edward Everett, lias been nominated for Congress, in the Middlesex District, Massacusetts, in place of the H»n. Mr Fuller, who declines a roelec- tion. Rhodc-Jsland Constitution.—The peo ple of Rhode Island have rejected Hie pro- po&a Constitution, by a majority of votes supposed to exceed 1500. The Editor of the Boston Gazette, who was at Albany when Gen. La Fayette was there, says—“A worthy gentleman of Al bany, who is somewhat celebrated for his eccentricity, asserted, in our presence, and we do not doubt the fact, that within one year there would be upwards of ten thousand children named after the, distin guished guest of the nation. The American Sen tinel, published at Middletown,' Con. con tains a brief outline of the character of Miss Mary Green Campbell, supposed to be the identical Mrs.Mary Moulton, whose nnme appears so conspicuously before the American public in connexion with that of presidential candidate. If this Mr; Moulton be indentified ns Miss Campbell, f which there cannot be a doubt, her tes timony will pnss for what we lmvc always considered it to he worth—nothing. It nppears thnt she has been for years a no torious prostitute. “ She was by nature, (says the editor,) a smart, likely girl, with manners and *a person nnd appearnneo prepossessing; and as to her intellect, if some anecdotes that have been related of her be true, she, in the difficulties in which her love affairs, where the status ante hel ium could not possibly be restored, when negotiating about indemnities, evinced nn acuteness and finesse worthy of on old diplomatist.”—Bost. Cour. The “ elegant, educated, nnd refined” Mrs. Moulton, whose deposition is copied into the last Reporter, prefaced by an elaborate commendation upon her merits, written, probably, by Ninian Edwards, is the "celebrated” MissMarv G. Campbell, who, when about thirty eight years old, kept a boarding house in Albany, where Master John Moulton, an apprentice to the printing business aged about eighteen,' hoarded a short time, and was afterwards married to her. The gentleman who gave this information, added, that Muster John Moulton lost the favour ofhis friends by this marriage.—Taunton Rcji.
