Wo are the more surprised nt this language in the paper whence we extract it, inns much as we have of late observed n good deal of liberality in its editorial comments: . . •. > v “While on this subject, wo may be per mitted to say, that the movements of cau cus agents have not escaped observation t the arrival of certain clerks in this city before the heat of election commenced; their progress to the Eastward, and cer tain expressions of satisfaction nt the re sult- cf their labors In this city, have not flipped from the memory of those who watched them nt the time. The busy plv- ki . cf these agents from one legislature to another, within a few weeks, have not escaped comment, and will hereafter he made a reason for attempting to throw ob stacles in the way of all corrupt measures at elections," U. 8. Gazette. , The writer of the articlo from which this paragraph is extracted may rest as- fured jtcdoe.s arent injustice to the Clerks, if he .flipposccfthey make, themselves bu sy in the election even of the chief Magis trate, towards whom thoy have a near po litical relation. As far as our porsonal observation extends, we can sincerely say, that wc have been surprised to see how little concern they have 'generally suffer ed themselves to take in the great pending election.—ib. Our renders arc already apprized of the scenes of insolence and outrage under which the late decision wns made in the Legislature of New York,iu regard to her Electoral votes. *Thc tone of the ultra- federal prints corresponds with the spirit of those scenes. Even after the choico, on second ballot, by an unequivocal ma jority, of the fonr remaining Electors, the Albany Daily Avertiser (the same which palmed upon its renders the falsehood that one of the Editors of this paper was pre- at Albany during the election,) says— “Though four men have been elected yvhp ar£ supposed to te in ;fnvor of Wm- If. Crawford, we do not believe he will receive tv single vote from New York, for nineteen twentieths of, hecitizens would DAMN the deed as a DAMNING and most wanton contempt of public opinion.” Here is a print which calls a victory, yielded to a minority, a.glorions triumph, proclaiming damnation to those electors who shall vote as the Legislature has, Jijr a clear ‘majority,; chosen them expressly to do. Yet with this flagrant contempt of positive instruction by the People, the writer pretends to be himself of the popu lar opinion. Judging him by his language, he is a lino Jacobin, and it is quite likely I10 was among the number of those (who are said to have regaled the ROpregenta- lives of the People, engaged in their legis lative duties at Albany, with hisses, groans , and imprecations from the galleries.—ib. By this arrival wc have receiv ed uregulur file of the Cnruccns El Go lombinno, from the 1st Sept, to the 20th Oct. inclusive. These papers contain no intelligence of importance; hut Cupt. SWEDEN.—Wo liave received from a correspondent at Gottcnburgh different papers to the latter part of September.
