Considerable sensation has been excit

twenty four hours, relative to the suppos

which was noticed in the Republican of
yesterday. We understand that orders
have been issued to the Police Officers of
the city and county to make strict search
throughout the suburbs of the town, «Stc.
for the purpose of ferreting out any cir

Tiic examination of Hall and Ells
worth before Justice Russell, was con
cluded this forenoon. Ellsworth in his
examination confessed that he was con
cerned in the robberies, aud intimated
that lie had several accomplices. He al
so said that a Mrs. Harris (the principal
evidence) was knowing to all the circunv
stances, and the stolon goods wore carried
to her house—tlmt she informed him how
to get into the House of Mr. Hunk, and
where lie would find the articles which
were stolen—and that she was to have fol
lowed them to Charleston. Ho attempted
to exculpate his companion Hall, and de
nied his haying participated in any of the
robberies. The evidence against him,how
ever, was deemed sufficient to substantiate
all the charges, and they were both coffi
mitted, for trial before the Superior Court
in May next, on six charges—fwo for
burglury aud four for lurccuy.
The officer who took Hall and his com
panion is constable Hunt of Chatham
County, instead of Effingham, as was stat
ed yesterday. The City Council have
voted him the sum of forty dollars for his
services in pursuing and .arresting them.
