l*il plant a little; lotttjy flower,
And tettd It with it molHcr’s care,
No whirlwind’s wrath, Or {Jawing shower;
Shall harni it in their wild itarcer:
And when chill winter’s blasts are nigh,
And howling storms around it rave,
I'll weep to sec my flow’ret die;
And mourn above its early grave..
And this rhy little flower shall be
Sad emblem bf my hapless doom;
For I was fair, till misery,
Had robbed tae of nty choicest bloom;
And now, the chilling blasts of care,
And grief with its “corroding tooth,”
Rath turned my Hopes'to black despair;
Attd chilled the fervour of my youth.
But tho' my little flower shalt die,
When summer's genial heut hath past,
And Scattered, on the ground shall lie;
Beneath the raging bf the blnst
Yet still when it hath past away,
Arid spring returns in all its bloom,
Its genial warmth, and cheering ray,
Shall raise ray floweret from its tomb;
fiat ah! to me no! spring returns,
No summer’s warmth can cheer mjr heart;
For there thc flame of conscience burnt,
And hid* each HngCrihg hope depart i
And ete two summer stins have fled;
The fcypress o'er my Head shall wave;
My soul, to brighter realms have tpedj
My body, to its lonely grave.
