Londonderry papers of the lOtli ult.'con-

been received. We have been furnished
with a few extracts from them by our at

nothing of particular interest. For the
following interesting commercial intelli

of mercantile gentlemen in this city. .
LlVHffPOO't, 7th April, 1825.
In the early part of this week there was a very
moderate demand for CoUou and prices rather re-
jjRded. The total snip* in the first three days,

■ ’ Idulta, on the evening-of the 6th inst tlmt the
plague had broken out tit the former place which
' would retard shipments, nnd tlmt it was believed
“the export of Cotton .from thence this year would
fall do,000 bales’limi t of the previous estimates ;
'information wasalso received from Havre stating
that the.Continent was Imre of Cotton, and that
they should soon have to look to this country for a
supply : these circumstances together with' an d-
most suspension of import have ’nfused fresh vi
gor into our market, and the sales during, yester
day and. to-day have been extensive, being esti*
muted at fully 16.0UO bales at, prices at least e-
•qual to the highest point for American, and near
ly Id higher for Brazil and Egyptian. Oar Cotton
Markrt for some time past has been in a constant
state of agitation} speculators have been almost
^(lailyin the market, and although prices have
fluctuated materially 1 heir tendency has been up*
wards. It Is Impossible to’ anticipate, how onr
' market may rule hereafter, but public opinion Is
nt pres, nt rather in fa vor .of un advance than a
decline. The demand'for Goods and Yarns con
tinues undiminLbad at an improvement in price
nearly equal to that in the raw materials, and the
manufacturers hold no stocks. The stock of Cot
ton in the hands of dealers and spinners is said to
be trifling, the stock in the ports is very much rc-
•dneed., Iflbe consumption continues at its pre
sent tremendous rate and tbft aggregate import
does not exceed that of last year we think thut
we may fairly calculate upon" present prices be
ing atlpust sustained, nnd.if speculation continue
probably an advance, nothing can cause any
decline of consequence excepting a diminution
in.the consumption.

. BALLOON ASCENT.
Yesterday, Mr. Charles Green, the
tefonuut, in company with his brother';
George Green, mudeliis2Stli ascontfrom
the Gardens of the Eagle Tavern,’City
road. Thu dumber of disappoiptments
whinh the public liavp recently fexperien-
eud, the failures which hnve taken place
in the Metropolis, induced Mr. Green to
mnke at) aseoiit/rout London; A. as a grni-
itieatioi) to the holidny folks, he fixed up
on Easter Monday for his aerial voyage.
It was iinounced. in the hills that the
Ascension would take place precisely at
three o’clock, find at that hour, there was
sufficient gas in the liallooii to raise the
machine iitto the tiir,; blit owftig to u vqry
pressirig, desire of Rif. Greeids . brother,
the useept -was delayed for, flic.purpose of
giving tlic balloon more ascending power
by,the introduction of a grent, quapt,ity of
gas, sufficient to curry both of thciiltrc-
pid voyagers. By half past four o’clock
the process of inflation was comple
ted, and though above au hour had elap
sed beyond the, time announced for the
ascent to take place, the utmost good hu
motir prevailed throughout the large as
semblage collected on Inis occasion. The
weather during the.day Wuij rcnm-kalily
fine, and though several trifling accidepts
occured,in consequence of persons clitnb-
iag on the garden Walls,- And the roofs of
summer houses, nothing fit' a serious na
ture took place to disturb the general joy.
—The roofs of the houses, from which a
view of the balloon could be commanded,
were covered With spectators and some of
the inhabitants in the vicinity of the gar
dens had their rooms crowded at one and
two shillings a head. A timre lovely
evening we scarcely rcipemlter, and n-
bout half pnst 6 o’clock, when the signal
gnu was fired, announcing that the as
cent wfis about to take place, the entire
atmosphere was ouchntded. Mr. Green
find his brother entered the car amidst
the shouts mid chipping of hands of lit,
assembled thousands, 'rite former in*,
stitutly proceeded to attach the car to tint
netting of the Balloon, which occupied
him.nbotit a quarter of on. hour. The
guy-ropes were then unfastened, nnd a
trial was made of the power of the ma
chine t afij-r placing about 209 pounds
weight of ballast in the car ofthe Bitlloon,
it was fiitind that it had barely an ascend
ing power; Mr. Green threw out a bag
containing 25 pounds of sand, and made
another trial, find but for the Balloon bc-
»g confined to the ground by a long rope,
it would have instautly cleft through the
air; Mr. Green bad, However, contrived
that the Balloon should ascend a consider
able height ar.d be brought down again to
the platform on which it was filled, twice,
before he detached the ropo from the
machine. The spectators were particu
larly gratified by. thit manner in which
ihe Balloon vvu* raised and havered again
fit pleasure, and the most deafening shouts
of approbation rewarded the voyagers
when they.moguted with the magnificent
machine majestically into the vuult of
Heaven.
A finer ascent never took place, nnd it
was Mr. Green’s object by carrying as
much ballast as possible, to pass over
London, thut the inhhitnnts might have a
close view, of him, and lie did not throw
out any ballast till the machine was over
the county of Surrey; .in ^jvbich direction
the voyager*.sailed, tlie win'd being North
hast. The balloon remained hi’ sight- of
those >vho witqesscd the ascent for half
an hour and upwards..
Three carrier pigeons wore taken hy.
Mr. Green in a small wicker basket,, one
of which lie Was to set at liberty on arriv
ing at his greatest altitude and the .either
two lie- was to dispatch op soon, as-Jie..ef
fected bis descent, to convey to his'friends,
at/tlie Eagle Tavern, the dame of the
place inhere, and the tiornc vheifhu des
cended- ;; ; ■
In the company which,- though mitri^
erous, was not altogether the most select,
we noticed uI'ynuug lady, named Stocks,
who, it will he recollected, narrowly
escaped destruction in un aerial voyage
with Mr. Harris, who was killed, by fal
ling with tilts car of the balloon, at the
Bcudington Park, near Grpyjlon, in May
last. She attracted very general notice
Mnssn Green's A uount .of their Voi/age.
‘1 At half past five o’clock the ballooif
left; the earth; amidst the cheers' of
i housand spectators--and os we pntlsed
•over tlic metropolis, vve heard the shouts of
the inhabitants’ m the different streets.
To give the public a more distinct view of
the machine, its it moved with giandour
and sublimity through the the atmost-
jthere, we determined not to attain too
great an altitude. Our coast was west by
south west,fi)id ori Crossing the River Tlmi-

Filial Respect.—Among the qualities
which.distinguish the Irish peusnnirv
