Weightrs of Cotton, Rice, Tobacco and Way.
§ 1. Best ordained by the Mayor and Jlldtrmtn
of the city of Savannah, and the ilamltls thereof, in
Council assembled, and it is hereby ordained by tlie

the authority of this ordinance, shall measure car

and measure boards, scantling, staves, shingles,
ranging limber, cypress logs, oak and other tim
ber; cord and measure wood; weigh cotton, rice,

§ 2. And be it further ordainedby the authority
aforesaid. That ut tho next regular meeting of
Council after the passage of this ordinance, and
at the first regular meeting of Cnhncil In January
of each Subsequent year, and pn such other oc
casions as may be deemed necessary, there shall
be appointed not exceeding ten Measurers of
Lumbar and Inspectors of Staves, not exceeding
three. Measurers of Wood, not exceeding two
Guagers of-Llquori, not exceeding ten Weighers
of Cotton, Rice, Tobacco and Hay, and npt ex
ceeding five Measurers of Suit, Peas, corn, and
•other grain: Each of whom, before entering
upon the duties of his office,eliali take and sub
scribe the tallowing oath, "I, A. B. do solemnly
swear or affirm (as the case maybe) that 1 will
faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of
theoffico to which I have been elected, according
to the Ordinances of the city and laws of the State,
so help me God.
§ 3. And be it further ordained by the authqnty
aforesaid, That no person appointed a Measurer
of salt, peas, com, and other grain, or of wood,,a
Mehsurer and Inspector of lumber, staves, shin
ies and other timber *, shall be directly or in-
irectly concerned in the sale thereof as prioci-
pni or agent. And each person appointed a Mea
surer oi salt, peas, corn, and other grain, or wood,
shall pnter into bond and security in the sum of
five hundred dollars; and each person appointed
a Measurer and Inspector ot lumber, staves, shin-

nance, shall be fined In a sum not exceeding $30
to be collected by warrant and distress as prescr|-
bed in the amended charter ot the city, passed by
the general assembly io its session, in Decomber,
1826; one half of said fine to go to tbe use of the
Cityand the other half to the informer. ‘
§ ,18. And be it further ordained by the authority

convicted before the mayor and aldermen of a
neglect or violation of Ills duties or tbe provisions
