aforesaid, That at the uexl regular meeting of
Council after the passage of tiffs ordpinnce, and
at Hie first regular meeting of Council in January,
of each subsequent, year, and on such dllier oc
casions as may be deemed necessary, there shall
be appointed not exceeding ten Measurers of
Lumbar andlhspebfors of Staves, not exceeding
three Measurers of Wood, not exceeding two
Ganger* of Liquors, hot exceeding ten Weighers
of Cotton, Rice, Tobacco and Hay, nnd not ex
ceeding fiveMeasurers of Suit, Peas, corn, and
other grain i Each of whom. before entering
upon the duties of his office, shall tnkonnd sub-
scribe the lollowing oath, "I, A. B. do solemn!,
swear or affirm (us the ease may be) that I W;
which the Measurer and Inspector of said lum
ber shall rCcejVe as his Compensation the sum of
one dollar, and the Clark of Council for affixing
the Seal of the City the sum of fifty cents, to be
paid by the shipper thereof.
§ 9. And be It further ordained by the aw
thorily aforesaid, That eaeh Gunner or Measurer
Of Liquors, appointed under and tiy virtue of this
Ordinance, when called upon to ascertain the
contents of any cask, shall be entitled to reoeive
the following lees to be paid him by ibe appli
cant. ;
For every Pipe, 20'cents. we,
For every Hogshead, 2t> cents.
For every Barrel or Cask; fS cents,
And each Guager shall also be an Inspector of
Liquor, and when required shall delermiiie the
■roof thereof, according, to. the United States
Standard, and tnark the same on the cask con.
taining said liquor.
$ 10. And be it further ordained by the au-
honty aforesaid, Tlmt one Of the Welgheni of
Cotton, Rice, Tobacco, Hay 1 and other goodi, ap
pointed under and by virtue of this Ordinance,
shall be located in Market Square, arid the others
at convenient places, whose duty it shall be, upon
application for that purpose made to them, Tar

shall receive a license, and for the same shall pay
to the City Treasurer twenty five dollars for the
uso of |hc city, and fifty Cent* for his own fees to
gether with the sum of one. dollar to the Clerk of
Council for his few. That each measurer of wood
'shall receive a license, and (or the same nay to
the City Treasury the sum pt ten dollars for the
use of the city, nnd to the Cii y Treasurer % his
fees fifty cents, and to the Clerk of Council for his
fees the sum ot one dollar, and each measurer of
Skit, Reus, Corn and otbar grain, shall receive a
license add for the samo pay to the City Treasu,
