T O prevent the Introduction of passen*
gers who are aliens into this port of
Savannah, during the months of July,Au
gust,September and October.
Whereas it has been the practice of inas-
tersof vessels to bring a number of passen-
gets, natives of foreign countries into the
port of Savtinnah.during the sickly months
thereby exposing to almost certain death
individuals whose constitu ions are but illy
adapted to the insalubrious climate of that
city, and thereby subje' is the community
to un eiroueous expense:
lie it therefore enacted by the Senate and
Jionso of Representatives in General As
M'inbly met and it is hereby enacted by
tho authority of the samo. That any mas
ter or commander of any ship or vessel ar
riving betweon the first of July and lust
day of October inciosive. from a foreign
country or from any part of tho U States,
;*ho shall, enter Ids yes el at the Custom
House in tho city of Savannah,sh4ll within
twenty four hours after such entry, make
a report in writing on oath to the flavorof
said it v, of the age, name and occupation
of every person, who sh ill have been brought
as passenger in such ship or vessel' on hor
last voyage, upon pain of forfeiting for eve
ry neglect or omission to make such report
the mm ot seventy five dollars, for every
alien neglected.to be so icported afore
said.
§3 And be it further ouacted, That it
shall Ik lawful for the said Mayor, or in his
•ickoess or absence any person legally nu-

in such ship or vessel, and not being a riti

land from such ship or vessel at any place
itliiu the distance of 50 miles from the said
city, with imcnt to proceed to the said city
otherwise than in the said shin or vessel,
the master or comma' der thereof shall be
liable to the like penalty of three hundred
lollars for every such person so suffered or
pc milled to land,
§ t. And he it further enacted, That if
uny householder in said cilv shall.knowing
ly. entertain in his lino-e or family
any alien so landed as aforesaid.& shall not
report such alien to the said Mayor, or in
case of his sickness or absence, any person
legally authorized to officiate in his place,

Aldermen, and when recovered by

every ship or vessel from which such alien
shall have been so landed without pcrmis

his place shall lie liable for the said penal
ties, and mnv he proceeded against by at
ichmeiitor any other mode in similar c.r-
sis allowed by jaw unless the owner'there
of or their agents shall give bond with sure
ties to the sheriff or his deputy ni the name
of the Mayor and* Aldeimen for the pay
ment of the said penalties und eveiv of
them which may have been incurred du
ring or since the last voynge of tho said
