RUSSIA AND TURKEY.
The Nfcw York Dally Advertiser con-

and Turkey in 1010 and 1C29," furnished
hy a gentleman who has resided in the
Turkish Capital, and who has travelled o
ver tlie ground where tlie military opera
tions of the Russians, and Turks are now
enriving on. Not having room fur the
whole of the article, we limit ourselves to
general view of it.
In the winter of 1809 and '10, the Rus
sians possessed themselves the Turkish
provinces, Moldavia and Wkllacliia. In
the summer of the same year, they advan
ced toShumla. While tlie main body
lay here, Ihe light troops passed the Bal
kan, and, iviihont ’opposition, plundered
the country to the southward as far as
Botirgas. Then, as now, there appeared
noth ng to oppose the progiess ol ihe inva
ders, even to the walls of the capital. But
a peace was patched up, and tho Russians
retreated. The writer proceeds, very in
telligently, to point out the reasons why
wf may not look for a similar result of the
present campaign. In Into, he says, Rus
sia was at war with England. Her trade
was crippled, her fleets were conflned and
watched, her navy was small, badly man
ned and worse officered. The Black Sea,
tho only outlet of her southern trade, was

not lie necessary to capture.
The face of the country from Kirki-

but without wood, or fences, or tcaiaely a

little cultivated, and the Russians, though
they will have an open field for their oper
