This article differs essentially from the
semiopaqno, yellow crystals, obtained by
simple evaporation and purification of the
alcludmlie solution.
Oil ol lilaek Pepper, (Precipitated.) a
powerful stimulant and valnnblo remedy in
typlius lever, also as an external stimulant
united with Decoction of Cxmharitlcs in
Spirit of Turpentine.—Cnulian. An oil
of black pepper may be found in tire mar-
kot, obtained by distillation—tills Isbv no
means 1he same as the article above descri
bed. and is very-feeble, if not entirely des
titute of the particular property for which
the above has been introduced. Ono
drop of oil of black pepper, added to six
grains of quinine, will greatly increase Ihe
powers nf this romrdy.
Extract of Quinine. Tills is the resid
uum of the picparatinn of Quinine. T-vo
grains aro folly equal to ono of the former;
and, as it is loss thanune third the price, it
is of course much cheaper to the practli loit
er than the sulphate,
Cilrated Kali, for extemporaneously
making the salino draught. One drachm'
ofthissali dissolved lit four ounces of tsn-
tor instantly forms the neutral mixture, e-'
qual mid similar in every respect to that
made from fretlt lemon juice.
Black Oxide of Mercury, lot extemoo.
raucously forming tho blue pill. One
fourth of a gtaiu equal lo four gtains of
blue mass.
Solidified Balsam Cnjiaiva. This pre
paration contains me Oil and Resin, nml
is rendered solid for the convenience of
forming into pills. Tills article contains
all the virtues of the Copaiva in a concen
trated degree.
