T HIS splendid Picture is now prepa
red for the inspection of the public,
on the lot owned by Mr. Waldhurgb, at
the junction of South Broad and Barnard
streets, in a large building of octangu
lar formation, aonstiucled for the purpose
of diffusing ur concentrating the light, as
the separate objects in this gorgeous city
and its luminous environs for lltiity miles
round, must obviously require. Burfurd,
who is acknowledged lo be the first Panor
amic Painter in Ihe world, was engaged in
perfecting this wnrkt and the governors
and Other natives of Mexico, as well as oc
casional residents, uniformly admit, that
this great artist lias been correct and min-
ult in the endless details of the picture, as
he was undoubtedly happy in its most beau
tiful and magnificent outline. As a work
of art, this splendid representation of the
greatest city of the South,-merits an eleva
ted tank. The view presented is undoubt
edly Correct, ami the painting of great ex
cellence. The delicious golden haze of 4
tropical atmosphere, is finely preserved;
anil the just management of light ami shade
with the exact drawing and perspective—
The true keeping and the luxurious repose
thrown ovci the whole, almost produce the
effect uf illusion. The vicar is from the
top ofa grand Cathedral in the centre of
the city, forming one side uf the square in
which Iturbide erected his famous Circus
foi ihe exhibition of popular sports, bul*
baiting, Sic. From this eminence thel
spectator looks down into tho square and
the Circus, alive with processions, sports
and business, and ouh over the fist roofed
dwellings of the city, interspersed with
magnificent domes and church towers, to
the surrounding plains, the lake and etscont
passing marshes, and rests his eyo upon
tlte abrupt and lofty mountains, glowing
with richness Mid beauty.
