In cases of tho chronic kind where the
blood is cold and stagnant, by taking the
pills first to quicken the blood, inoie bene
fit will be found from bleeding. It is in
general as necessary to bleed in the rhro
nic as the other; 1 have had cases where
it has been of many years standing, that I
found in tho courso of the cure five or six
bleedings to be absolutely necessary. IIy
taking these pills people will find bleeding
to do thorn more good and bear it better
than without them.
Spasms, or cramps will be found to yield
to their operations. As to spasms, I con
sider trem of the nature of tho then
matisni. for I conceive it to arise from
the same causes, vis. wet and cold : it fro
quently attends the rheumatism, and geuer
ally afreets the same constitutions, and I
have found the same remedies to equally
relieve.
Pitts of various kinds 1 have known to
be peifectly cured by these pills.
The rheumatic pills, which l now offer
the pnhlic for trial, will bo found, for com
mon use, the most safe, effectual and plea
sant physic ever offered, being composed
«n*?r#»ly of vegetabl* materials, they do
not predispose to take cold like other phv

appeite assist digestion, and carry off ail
crudities from the stomach. They may bo
taken by females in circumstances tc great
advantage.
If on taking cold a few of these pill; are
taken on.going to bed. they will be- found
to operate kindly the next day. and carry
oft any bad olfects which might have re
mained of such cold if they had not been
taken.
Families will find by a free use of these
pills, that one half, at least, of tho usual
services of the Physicians may be dispensed
wi-h, and ot the same time get rid of many
chroniu complaints, which cause many to
drag out an unhappy life.

Boston, November 80th, 1828
In giving an opinion of any specific
medicine, the motive by which overy mem
ber of the community should be governed
is. the known superior valuo the article
possesses to any other medicine designed
fur similar purposes, aod the benefits which
will naturally accrue to the public or that
part of it in pursuit of health. I have for
many years been alarmingly affected with
a mercurial rheumatic disease, with ulcers
in the throat, and on many parts ef the
surface of tho body, which have confined
me to my room and bed. No medical aid
that was attainable has been neglected—
hut all to no remedial purpose. The ma
lady proc essed, bidding defianco lo medi
cine and the most approved prescriptions.
All the popular nostrums of the day I have
tried, among which I used upwards of nine
tif bottles oj Swaim's Panacea without bene
fitting me in the least. I applied to Dr.
Phelps a few months ago, who, not with
standing the unfavorable indications of the
case and the unyielding disposition of the
disease, proposed the use of the Arcanum.
together with the observance of the grocr
al advice and directions contained in the
pamphlet, and by taking six bottles of the
same, I say without hesitation that all the
symptonu of disease have disappeared, and
it is with pleasure and gratitude I now ac
knowledge it.
CLABORNE W. ADAMS.
Rochester, Dec. 9th 1828.
Dear Sir—No apology was necessaiy
f^r the favor of the medicine you forward
cil me some mouths ago I can assure you.
I have given the Arcanum an impartial
and thorough trial ill such diseases as up
peared to me tho most unmanageable, and
it is no encomium when I say it is superior
to any article or medicine known to me
for combating Rheumatism, Syphilis, Scro
phula and other almost inveterate diseases.
You 'nave been extremely foi tun ate in com
