•VI.
It is well known that w 0 did not approve
inn choice by General Jackson of Me*irj

three of the four piincipal d parttnims nf
thr Etern i,-. It „„ t h en oorimpres
ston that, talents and indnstrv, virtue and
pmrintism, would he wanting In the dis
c,targe nf the duties attached to those offi
c-s. and Ih.| harmony would 01 could „«
prevail, among the members of a Cabinet
thus composed. The event has verified
our impression. Discord prevailed in the
Cabinet, and Gen. Jackson had to chance
five of the principal officers of the Govern
n, eni, in order to introduce harmnnv in
the ennncl!. of the Rser.uiiya daparimem
so essential t.j a„wis« a,,;, henaficia! admin

of the country. The correspondence he
fore the public shows plainly, that discord,
both personal and political, prevailed in
the Cabinet, which; whatever mgy have
been its origin, did emharrass the opera
tions nf the Executive. Whether it origin
rated in tlie polities! amhitlon of Mr. Cal
boon and Mr. Van Kurran: nr whether il
originated in the refusal of Messrs. Ing
ham, Branch,and Berrien,to permit their
respective families to associate with that
of Mr. Eaton, it mailers not. General
Jackson found that he could not protend
in the dischrge of his duties, anildojas
lice to the countrv. and tu the Iriends who
placed him in the Executive chair, with a
diviilod Cabinet, with discord and personal
ennritv prevailing among all the members
—ainnne men from whom ho expected
Diat assistance he which needed in the dis
c..argc o. iba arduous u’uiics of itis ot-

v II.
We have said that it mattered not how
discord orieinatod ainnne the members of
Die Cabinet. The Ameri an pen,do are
satisfied that discord did exist, svhtch the
President had no aeency in creatine, anti
that therefore, General Jackson is justified
in dismissine the members of his Cabinet,
and in choosing others in their stead But
as ihe dismissed nic-nbers nfthe Cabinet
are men nf ambition, and aspirine In the
liieh offices of the countiy.it is proper that
their conduct, in this business, should he
inveslieated, in order tn ascertain whether
they hive not forfoited the confidence of
lhe people, by acting in an unbecoming
and renrehenohle tus nn e; j a , v er y Slade
of the transactions iinder coo IderaDon.—
We most then keep in mind, that this cor
respnndenre informs us uf this position as
sumed by Messrs Ingham, Branch and
Berrien, in controversy, that the j n
the Cabinet, lied its origin in a refusal on
their part, to lei., their families associate
with the family nf Mi. Eaton. Rut at the
same lime this correspnndeno'gives tn un
derstand that this discord is mainly 10 he
nscrihed to souther end higher sootce,
namely, the ambition and aspffiog views
of Messrs. Van Boren ami Calhoun.

try? No. Could he resrnie harmony a-
inong the members of Ins Cabinet? Thic
he attempted, and failed; and why did be
fail? Because of the political and not of
the Jamihi discord, which existed Bin mg
the meuibors of his Cabinet.
