O N TUESDAY, me /tit of July, will be pub
lished. the First No. of the Third Volume
of The Telegraiui.
This Paper, having passed the ordeal which is
generally considered necessary toinsure the long
life of u literary bantling, comes before the same
public which, two years ago, called it into axis
ence, and has since given it "a local habitation'
and a name,” in such a shape as will convince its
patrons that it has thriven on their bounty. Its
present appearance, we hope, will be a s ufi cent
guarantee, that its nearer approach to natltiood,
under their fostoring promotion, will a ; distin
guished by a corresponding display of its desire to
be grateful for past favors, as well as a strong
attachment to the principles by which it has been
guided from its birth. In a word, tuose principles
will bo found to “strengthen with its strength; - '
and, il'it grows gray in me pa die service, it will
not be found departing from them in the sear
and yellow leaf” of an old age.
The Telegraph will givea clear and impar
tial view of the existing state of public a .fairs—
taking care always to furnish its readers with both
sides of the question, and very frequently leaving
them todraw their own conclusions of its merit.
The general politics ofotir beloved country will
occasionally demand our attention. vVe will no
.influenced m our course of observation oil this
important topic, solely by an ardent W.sn to give
stability to the Institutions of our glorious Repub-
lic, andtrasmit unimpaired to posterilv, the bless
ings which the Conscript Fathers of the Revolu
tion secured for our enjoyment.
With Party polities we will have no connex
ion. Instead of fanning the flame of discord,
or fermenting prejudice, wc shall feel it our duty
to use our endeavors toallly the trouniad ele
ments, and call into requisition the kindlier feel
ings ofoui comruou nature, thereby tending to
cement more tirrnly the bonds which unite soi.i-

The Catholicau consists exclusively of vege
table matter, and with a slight determination to
tlie bowels, which it preserves in a soluble state,
acts insensibly, is pleasant to tlie taste, and re
quires no particular regimen or confinement. As
a gentle cathartic medicine, improving tlie appe
tite and restoring tlie general tone of the system,
it is confidently recommended to ladies in a deli
cate situation.
There are aj this time several spurious mix
tures in circulation abroad, and some vended in
tiiis city, assuming to possess the same or
equal virtliues of Potter’s Catholicon. It is
to be hoped, tiiat tlie unsuspecting will be placed
on their guard against such impositions, as much
mischief has resulted from their use. They

The very flattering accounts which are daily
received of tile superior efficacy of Potter’s Cu-
tliolicau in th* of thes; « aich are
incident, and mostly ju-evail among the colored
population of the South, almost entitle itto the ap

means of saving many a valuable slave from a

Mr. Potter, Philaddphia.
Sir,—The benefit which I received from the
use of your invaluable medicine, impels me, as a
matter of duty, to make my case public, for die
benefit of those who may be laboring under com
plaints similar to my own.
For four years I was afflicted with m cxcrutiit
ting complaint, which sliovyedieelf first by avio
lent erruption in my hack, from whence it spread
to both my shoulders, and from thence down
wards, itutil my whole body became almost an
entire scab; it then commenced on the left side
of my face, extending upon my head- thence a-
cross to the other side, forming the letter S in its
course; my whole frame became excessively
painful und sore, und when my clothing came in
contact witii the ulceration on my back, the
sligiitest touch would place me in tlie greatest
agony, aud it was with difficulty I could pursue
my business. In short, not to swell tiiis state
raent with a detail of my extreme sufferings, ray
situation was desperate. Many respectable phy
sicians were consulted, whose skill was exhaus
ted in vain. 1 felt no relief from tiieir prescrip
tions. 1 was then admitted a patient to the Penu-
sylvania Hospital, where 1 remained for some
time under the care ofthe surgeons ofthat insti
tution, without hope of a relief: their remedies
served only to aggravate my complaint. A
length the Sirop, de Cuisinier, or Compound Si
rop of Sarsaparilla, was ordered, of which I took-
aconsiderable quantity withoutany evident signs
of amendment. Finally 1 toolt ray discharge,
and placed myself under the care of Mr. Potter,
aud commenced his Catholican, a continued use
of which, to the amount of five bottles, taken ac
cording to tile direction,completely renovated me;
1 felt its power in thu couse ofthe first few days
after I hud commenced taking it, and at present
1 feel myself perfectly cured, not having about me
a symptom of that complaint to which 1 hud so
long been u martyr.
I am, sir, your obedient and humble servant,
JOHN CARR.
