aggravate nil other diseases, and aro tha chief
cause of lovers, bowel complaints, and clnuuic
nud nervous diseases incident to childhood, which
are numerous and frequently fatal. It is a fact
much to he regretted, that thousands of children
are swept oil*, or tiro rendered feeble, ^nle and
emaciated through the first stages of lilo, which
lends on to pulmonary complaints, i.e. Most
oftlie remedies made iise of for this disease are
strong drastic medicines of a poisonous charac
ter, which debilitate the stomach, aud often ma
terially injure the health of pationts. Tho Oil of
Wormseed, which has been recommended and
prescribed at present hy tho faculty, is so deteri
orated by adulteration and mixture, or the pro
duct ofjnferiorscod, that no dependence whatev
er cun be placed upon it. Tho Worm Tea. as
it is commonly tailed, composed clfiefly of Pink
Root, is mndc so very inferior, almost wholly of
stalks and leaves, that it is almost worthless; and
there is no preparation iu n convenient form of
exhibition which is considered safe and approved
of hy tho laoulty. The Pink Boot is .considered
by all who ure ncqtininted with its properties to
he one of the safest and most effectual remedies.
There is. however, considerable of that which
is sold almost worthless, containing but a small
portion ofthe root; it also requires considerable
euro and attention in extruding its properties,
which is nut generally done by Uioreimucquain-
ted with pharmaceutical preparations. Under
these circumstances, G. w. Cnrpopter hnstho’t
it advisable to propatonn extract oPtho Spigelin,

most upproved of, for the convenience oftlie Itic-

articlo will be curcfnlly prepared of uniform'

persons under any circumstances.
There is no disease which peodneesso much
disturbance in the system as worms. Not only
do they aggravate ordinary diseases, but they
give rise to a great variety of very alarming
anomalous aftections. Tho whole train of spas
modic and convulsive diseases may proceed from
the irritation of worms in the alimentary canal
Cholera, epilepsy, catalepsy, tetanus, paralysis,
mania and convulsions, ns well as a variety of
other nervous anti convulsive nfi’ections, are not
mif. eqiicutly the immediate eflects of this cause.
Besides these diseases, worms have also* been
known to produce plbttrisy. pains in tho side,
dysentery, remitting fever, dropsy of the brajn,
chronic and spasmodic cough. <\ c.
