Intermittent Fever, or as it is more popular ly called, Fover and Ague, or Chills and Fe vers, is a fever composed of several distinct paroxysms, with a perfect intermission, or pe* riod when no fever is present, interposed be tween earh. Each paroxysm has three stages, which successively follow each other with com siderablu regularity, namely, a cold state, shot stage, and.finally, n sweating stage, which ter minate* thu paroxysm. Previously to an attack, a feeling of languor and debility j* experienced, with sluggishness ill motion and some uneasiness in attempting to move. The face end extremities become pale; the nails of a leaden or livid color, (he features shrunk, ami thu skin appears as If contracted by cold: n feeling ofct idtiuss comes ott the back, resembling ofien a stream of cold water running down it, and soon extends over tlm whole body, l though at this time the skin of the patient will feel warm to another peison)lhe sensation of coldness soon increases to a tremor, and this to tigours and shivering. The above symptoms, which are those of the cold stage, vary in different individuals, being very slight in some; in others, very severe.— Thoy are generally more severe in the old and debilitated, then in the young and strong, ami last from n few minutes to many hours.
